CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing collected its second straight NEISA Open Sailor-of-the-Week award, as announced by the league on Tuesday morning. The Crimson coed team tied for the best record at the Thompson Trophy Team Race this past weekend, but took second after tiebreaker rules were implemented.
Harvard's roster in New London, Connecticut, included
Justin Callahan,
Christina Chen,
Aidan Pesce,
Mitchell Callahan,
Rosella Irfan,
Robby Meek and
Jacob Posner. The group finished the two-day event with a 14-1 record, matching Stanford's 14-1 effort. The Crimson, however, dropped the head-to-head with the Cardinal, which gave its west-coast foe the victory.
Harvard's runner-up showing snapped its six-regatta win streak. The Crimson, meanwhile, finished its team-racing regular season with six victories and one second-place finish, putting a lid on one of the most dominant springs across the sport in recent memory.
The Crimson now turns its focus to fleet racing, with four such regattas on this weekend's schedule. Harvard is slated to compete at the NEISA Women's Fleet Racing Championship/Reed Trophy (New London), NEISA Open Fleet Racing Championship/Coast Guard Alumni Bowl (Cranston, R.I.), Boston Dinghy Cup Fleet Race (Charles River) and Morris Trophy Fleet Race (Charles River). The NEISA events are scheduled for April 18-19, while the Boston Dinghy Cup and Morris Trophy are set for April 18 and April 19, respectively.
