Baseball Earns ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award for Eighth Straight Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball has earned the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award for the eighth straight year for its achievements in the classroom during the 2023-24 academic year, the American Baseball Coaches Association has announced.

During this past year, the Crimson posted a 3.524 team grade-point average during the spring 2024 semester and a 3.532 team grade-point average during the fall 2023 semester.

The ABCA recognized nearly 350 high school programs and more than 470 collegiate programs from across the country with the 2023-24 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award.

Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2023-24 academic year.

In 2024, Harvard totaled seven Ivy League awards, including Ivy League Pitcher of the Year honors for Callan Fang and unanimous First Team All-Ivy accolades for Ben Rounds who hit .403, becoming the first member of the Crimson to hit above .400 since 2004. Over the course of the season, Harvard earned at least one win over all seven other Ivy programs.

Following the 2024 season, the Crimson tallied a pair of MLB Draft selections for the second straight season as right-hander Sean Matson went to the Cleveland Guardians in the ninth round with the 265th overall pick and right-hander Tanner Smith went to the San Diego Padres in the 15th round with the 450th overall selection.
