CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Ainsley Tuffy of Harvard women's hockey was honored yesterday by being named to the National Goalie of the Year Watch List, an award that is sponsored by the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association. Tuffy has been a standout for the Crimson women's hockey team this season, bursting onto the scene by posting a 2.22 Goals Against Average (GAA) and a .933 Save percentage in 11 games played in 2024-25. A Massachusetts native, Tuffy currently ranks 12
th in the NCAA with her save percentage clip.
The first-year netminder has turned in a number of impressive performances this season, most notably posting 40 saves against a surging No. 7 Quinnipiac team in just her second career start on Nov. 9, making 40 saves and holding the team to just one goal. It was the first time a Harvard first-year goalie had made 40 or more saves in a game since the 2017-18 season when Lindsay Reed accomplished the feat, also in her second career start. Tuffy recently surpassed her career high, recording 43 saves against Dartmouth (Jan. 4).
Most recently, Tuffy got the nod in the Beanpot semifinal round against No. 14 Boston University in her Beanpot debut (Jan. 14). Tuffy stood on her head all game, making 39 saves against the Hockey East leading Terriers in an eventual narrow overtime defeat.
Tuffy was one of seven ECAC representatives on the 35-goalie list, putting the first-year in good company with some of the top goaltenders in the nation.
The Goaltender of the Year award was created in 2021 to recognize the top female goalie in NCAA Division I hockey. The goalies to watch come from all five NCAA Division I conferences with 19 from the United States, 9 from Canada and seven from Europe (two from Finland and Sweden and one each from Austria, Denmark and Slovenia.)
This initial "Watch List" of outstanding goalies is comprised of those with a goals against average of 2.10 or lower or a save percentage of .920 or higher. A committee of voters — made up of a cross section of coaches, administrators, and media — will pare this list down within the next two weeks and then ultimately choose the winner who will be announced in March during the NCAA Frozen Four.
