PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving extended its winning streak to five consecutive dual meets on Friday as it defeated Brown on the road, 182-118. The Crimson is now 5-0 on the year and 4-0 against Ivy League competition. The Bears, meanwhile, dropped to 3-4 (2-4 Ivy).
How It Happened
- Shane Washart was the first Crimson athlete to pick up a victory as he captured the 1,000 free in 9:24.74.
- Joshua Chen won the 100 breast by nearly two seconds, finishing the race in 54.73. Runner-up Harrison Powe of Brown registered a time of 56.09.
- Chen's decision spurred a streak of five straight swim-event victories, with Adriano Arioti winning the 200 fly in 1:47.69. The first-year led a group that dominated the race as David Schmitt (1:47.78), Mert Iravul (1:50.00) and Richard Poplawski III (1:51.48) took second, third and fourth, respectively.
- Sonny Wang followed Arioti's win with two straight victories, claiming the 50 free in 19.78 and the 100 free in 44.59.
- In between Wang's two wins, Adam Wesson finished atop the leaderboard with a 1-meter diving score of 390.30. The performance was a sign of things to come as the senior polished off his time in Providence with a win on the 3-meter board (379.80).
- After Wang's win in the 100 free, Arioti and Chen closed the run with triumphant efforts in the 200 back and 200 breast, respectively. Arioti finished his race in 1:45.87, just ahead of second-place Anthony Rincon (1:46.70) and third-place Eric Lee (1:50.60). Chen, meanwhile, completed the breaststroke sweep by posting a time of 2:00.05.
- The Crimson later closed the midday meet with victories from Schmitt, Lee and the 400 free relay team of Rincon, Marre Gattnar, David Greeley and Wang. Schmitt led off with a 48.28 performance in the 100 fly and was followed by Lee's 3:58.91 in the 400 IM. The relay put the final touches on the dual with a convincing effort, finishing in 2:59.61, which was nearly two seconds faster than the runner-up quartet of Harris Durham, Ben Littlejohn, Evan Croley and Oliver Pilkinton (3:01.02).
