Women’s Ice Hockey Set for Beanpot Battle with No. 12 Boston College at TD Garden

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's ice hockey will make the short trip to downtown Boston tomorrow afternoon to battle No. 12 Boston College at historic TD Garden in the third-place game of the 2025 Dunkin' Women's Beanpot. The Crimson (2-15-2, 1-12-1 ECACH) will have a rematch of last year's third-place contest when it faces off against the Eagles (15-7-1, 12-4-1 HEA) at the Garden. After becoming the first women's college ice hockey team to win at TD Garden last year, the Crimson will look to make more history when it hits the ice at 4:30 PM at the home of the Boston Bruins and live on NESN, ESPN+ and TSN+.

What to Know

Last Time Out

The Crimson returned to ECAC action over the weekend, falling in a pair of close contests at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center against RPI (Jan. 17) and Union (Jan. 18). Harvard was in both games until the final whistle and got goals from three different skaters in the contests.

The goaltending duo of Ainsley Tuffy and Emily Davidson was once again solid, as the dup split the Friday and Saturday games, respectively. Tuffy made 25 stops against RPI and Davidson made 21 in the Saturday showdown against Union. On the offensive side of the ice, Paige Lester scored the goal for Harvard against RPI while Ellie Bayard and Emily Hamann scored the goals against Union. Hamann's goal would be the first of her collegiate career.

Scouting The Eagles

The Boston College Eagles will head to the Garden with a record of 15-7-1 and a 12-4-1 mark in Hockey East action fresh off a 3-0 victory against the University of Vermont over the weekend. The Eagles fell in its semifinal matchup to Northeastern, 4-2, last Tuesday at Matthews Arena and will now take on Harvard in the third-place game.

Currently 11th in the nation in scoring offense, BC averages 2.9 goals per game which is the best in the Hockey East at this point in the season. Defensively, the Eagles allow just over two goals per game but still displays the nation's seventh-best penalty kill, stopping opponent powerplays at an 88-percent clip.

Sophomore forward Sammy Taber leads the team with 25 points on the season with senior captain Abby Newhook close behind with 20 points on the year. Julia Pellerin leads the group in the goal scoring department, with 12 lamps lit on the season.

Series History

The Crimson holds the lead in all-time series against Boston College with a 42-23-2 record against its Beanpot rival. In the Beanpot, Harvard owns a 18-11-1 record against the Eagles. The rivalry has been pretty even dating back to 2018-19 with the Crimson owning a slight 4-3-1 advantage over the Eagles.

Player History vs. Boston College

Eight active skaters own points in their careers against Boston College, none more than senior blueliner Mia Biotti, who has tallied four points with a goal and three assists in six career games against BC. Fellow seniors Ellie Bayard, Jenna MacDonald and Kayley Crawford have tallied an assist against the Eagles as well.

Eva Dorr scored perhaps one of the most memorable goals against the Eagles that came in the third-place game at TD Garden a season ago, becoming the first Crimson player to score at TD Garden.

A Pair of Firsts

First-year Emily Hamann and Sophomore Angelica Megdanis scored their first career goals last week in the games against Union and Boston University, respectively. The duo became the 16th and 17th players to record a goal for Harvard this season. That pushed Harvard into a tied for the third most goal scorers on a team in the ECAC

Tuffy Named to National Watch List

Ainsley Tuffy of Harvard women's hockey was honored yesterday by being named to the National Goalie of the Year Watch List, an award that is sponsored by the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association. Tuffy has been a standout for the Crimson women's hockey team this season, bursting onto the scene by posting a 2.30 Goals Against Average (GAA) and a .930 Save percentage in 11 games played in 2024-25. A Massachusetts native, Tuffy currently ranks 18th in the NCAA with her save percentage clip.

Lucia Makes History

First-year forward, Ella Lucia, wrote her name in the NCAA record books against Dartmouth, scoring just 11 seconds into the matchup to record the T-8 fastest goal in NCAA history. Lucia joins former Harvard great Kristin Della Rovere '23 on the list, who also scored 11 seconds into a game against Dartmouth in the 2022-23 season.

Kaley MacDonald Leading the Way

Kaley MacDonald went on a tear down the stretch of the first half to grab a hold of the team lead in points with nine. The sophomore blueliner has scored two goals and dished out seven assists – which is also a team-best - on the year.

On Fire

Just over halfway through her first collegiate season, first-year Ella Lucia is beginning to her hit her stride with the Crimson. The Michigan native recorded a point in five consecutive games, scoring two goals and notching three assists over the stretch from Nov. 23-Jan. 4. Lucia became the first first-year to accomplish the feat since Kristin Della Rovere '23, who hit the mark in the 2018-19 season. It is also the longest point streak for the Crimson since Becca Gilmore tallied a point in 10 straight games during the 2021-22 season.

Blocking Shots

The Crimson's ability to get in shooting lanes and block shots has been a staple of the team's defensive success during the 2024-25 season. Currently, Harvard leads the ECAC and ranks third in the nation with 18.1 blocked shots per game.

Individually, Jenna MacDonald ranks in the top 10 in the nation and tied for fourth in the ECAC with 2.5 blocked shots per game. First-Year forward, Scout Oudemool, has also helped out in the defensive zone, blocking 1.2 shots per contest to ranks among the top eight highest shot blocking forwards in the nation.
