Men’s Tennis Split Matches in Sunday Doubleheader

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 23 Harvard men's tennis fell in a heart-breaker to Texas A&M, 4-3, in the finale of the ITA Kickoff Weekend this afternoon before bouncing back with a 4-1 victory over Bryant.

The Crimson continued its streak of match opening doubles points as it grabbed wins at the top two courts.  Daniel Milavsky and David Lins first collected their second victory of the weekend as they produced a convincing 6-2 results over Giulio Perego and JC Roddick (Texas A&M).  The duo of Masata Perera and Benjamin Privara provided the decisive victory as it defeated its third straight ranked opponent, this time dropping the No. 48 nationally ranked duo, 6-4. 

The Aggies gained some momentum as the match headed into singles play beginning with a victory at the No. 4 spot.  Harvard quickly followed to retake its lead as Privara posted a dominant, 6-2, 6-3, win over the No. 60 nationally ranked singles player, JC Roddick (Texas A&M). 

The two teams again traded matches to set the contest at 3-2 in favor of the Crimson.  As Texas A&M grabbed a point at court five, Mitchell Lee followed with his first collegiate dual win.  The first-year claimed the opening set 7-5 before being blanked by Perego (Texas A&M) in the following frame.  Lee responded by controlling the final set and solidifying the win with a 6-1 decision.

Despite the Crimson battling until the final point, the Aggies were able to hold on in the third set of the remaining two matches to complete their comeback.

Men's Tennis Ends Doubleheader with Win Over Bryant, 4-1

The Bulldogs were able to pull ahead early after grabbing wins at the No. 1 and 3 doubles spots. Despite dropping the doubles point, Marc Ktiri and Benjamin Privara registered a victory at court two as they defeated Marcus Macaulay and Jean-ChristopherBaril (Bryant), 6-4. 

As singles play ensued, the tide shifted and the remainder of the match was dominated by the Crimson.  Valdemar Pape evened the match at one-all as he cruised to a win at the No. 2 spot, dropping just one game in two sets. 

Daniel Milavsky and Masato Perera followed with two additional straight set victories, quickly pulling Harvard within a win of clinching the match. 

While appearing for the first time in the dual season, Ktiri grabbed the final win of the night, defeating Baril with a convincing 6-0, 6-4 decision.
