Cross Country Concludes Regular Season at Nuttycombe Invitational, IC4A/ECAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – With the postseason on the horizon, the Harvard cross country squads impressed at both the Nuttycombe Invitational and the IC4A/ECAC Championships to wrap up the 2025 regular season.

The Crimson found success at the Nuttycombe Invitational, one of the premier regular season meets in collegiate cross country. In the women's 6k championship race, Harvard's women's team finished in 27th place with 689 points against some of the top programs in the nation, as the men's team captured 13th place with 411 points against a field that featured 18 teams ranked in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's National Coaches Poll. Harvard's men's team entered the weekend at the No. 28 spot in the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll.

At Van Cortlandt Park, select Crimson enjoyed a successful day at the IC4A/ECAC Championships. On the men's side, two Crimson finished in the top-100, as the women's team captured 18th place.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Entering the weekend at No. 28 in the USTFCCCA's National Coaches Poll, the men's rose to the occasion, taking 13th place with 411 points in the men's 8k championship race at the Nuttycombe Invitational.
  • After taking third place in his collegiate debut at the Paul Short Run, first-year Tam Gavenas paced Harvard's scoring effort, leading the way with a 26th place showing and a time of 23:42.3.
  • Two more Crimson finished in the top 70 of the men's 8k championship race. The Paul Short Run men's 8k champion earlier this month, junior and team captain Sam Burgess finished in 50th after posting a time of 23:57.6. Fellow classmate and team captain Charlie Ortmans captured 66th with a time of 24:06.2.
  • First-Year Benjamin Bouie and junior Ferenc Kovacs rounded out Harvard's scoring in the men's 8k at the Nuttycombe Invitational. A native of Sunnyvale, California, Bouie took 133rd place with a time of 24:43.9, as Kovacs, a third place finisher in the men's 1500m at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships, placed in 142nd  with a time of 24:50.8.
  • On the women's side, senior and team captain Molly Malague led the way for Harvard's 27th place finish in the women's 6k championship race at the Nuttycombe Invitational. Malague took 51st place, crossing the finish line in 20:37.2, as sophomore Abigail Sadler took 142nd place with a time of 21:32.2 in her home state of Wisconsin.
  • A four-time All-American in the 800m, junior Sophia Gorriaran made her season debut with a 148th place showing, posting a time of 21:39.6. In just her second collegiate race, first-year Dylan McElhinney added to the Crimson's point tally by taking 154th place with a time of 21:42.0.
  • Sophomore Katelyn Matarese concluded Harvard's scoring run by finishing in 211th after running a 23:00.9.
  • Back on the east coast, three Crimson men took part in the men's 8k at the IC4A/ECAC Championships. First-year Arashi Hunter posted the best Harvard performance, capturing 51st after running a 25:28.6. Fellow classmate Eamon Gordon also earned a spot in the top-100, recording a time of 25:59.8 to finish in 88th place. Junior Jake Swanson took 142nd at Van Cortlandt Park with a time of 26:40.7.
  • On the women's side, sophomore Zara Geddes led the Crimson to 18th place in the team standings, taking 81st with a time of 22:51.8. Two more Crimson finished in the top 100 of the women's 6k at the IC4A/ECAC Championships, as junior Abby Weber crossed the finish line in 23:00.3 to take 94th place, while senior and team captain Lily O'Donoghue-McDonald ended the race in 98th place with a time of 23:01.8.

The postseason awaits the Crimson at the end of October, as Harvard returns to New York City for the 2025 Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 31 at Van Cortlandt Park.
