CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard cross country is set for its first marquee meet of the 2025 season this weekend, as the Crimson travel to the Keystone State for the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course on Friday, Oct. 3.
The men's gold race will start the day for the Crimson at 11:00 a.m., while the women's race at 11:45 a.m. will conclude the action for Harvard at the Paul Short Run.
WHAT TO KNOW:
- Harvard enters the weekend represented in both the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association's Northeast and National rankings.
- The men's team currently sits in the No. 29 spot in the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll, while the women's team received votes in the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll.
- In the USTFCCCA Northeast Regional Rankings, the men's team currently holds the No. 2 spot, as the women's team occupies the No. 4 spot in the USTFCCCA Northeast Regional Rankings.
- Seniors Molly Malague and Penelope Salmon return to Cambridge after fantastic 2024 seasons. Malague posted the Crimson's top performance at the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships, earning All-Ivy League First Team honors in the process. A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Salmon also garnered All-Ivy League First Team recognition in 2024.
- On the men's side, the Crimson return two All-Ivy League honorees from last season, as senior Shane Brosnan and junior Sam Burgess return after posting top-15 finishes at Heps last season. The men's team also adds first-year Tam Gavenas to the roster this season, as Gavenas took home first place honors at the 2024 Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships last fall.
- Last year saw both Harvard squads punch their tickets as a team to the 2024 NCAA Cross Country National Championships. The men's team finished in 27th place while the women's team took 28th.
- Harvard will run the Paul Short Run for a second straight year. Last season saw the women's team win the meet with five finishers in the top-40, while the men's team finished in second.
- Burgess and junior Charlie Ortmans will serve as the men's team captains this season, while Malague and senior Lily O'Donoghue-McDonald are the women's team captains.

Harvard continues the 2025 campaign with a pair of meets on Friday, Oct. 17. One group of student-athletes will head to Madison, Wisconsin for the Nuttycombe Invitational, while another will head south for the ECAC/IC4A Cross Country Championships.
