Men's Hockey Hosts Stonehill in Midweek Matchup

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Coming off a Halloween shootout against the UConn Huskies, men's hockey is set to host Stonehill tomorrow to make its debut on home ice in 2025-26. 

HE FIRST MEETING 
  • The Crimson and Skyhawks are set to meet for the first time. 
  • Stonehill sits at 1-7-0 and is coming off a loss to Dartmouth over the weekend. 
  • Playing a difficult schedule to open the season, the Skyhawks have already played three games against ranked opponents after facing No. 14 UMass and No. 5 Penn State in a weekend series. 
  • Stonehill battled with the powerhouse Nittany Lions after dropping the first game by a score of 3-2 before losing on Saturday 4-2. 
LAST TIME OUT 
  • Harvard opened the season with a 1-1 tie against No. 9 UConn in Friday night. 
  • Trailing for almost two periods, first-year Richard Gallant netted the equalizer to help push the game to overtime. 
  • Ben Charette led the way with 36 saves including 24 in the second and third periods. 
  • The tie against the No. 9 Huskies is the second tie against a top-10 team in the last two seasons as Harvard tied No. 6 Cornell at Bright-Landry last season. 
 RICKY ON THE SPOT
  • Richard Gallant netted his first career goal in his first career game on Friday. 
  • Knotting the game at one apiece, Gallant became the first rookie to score in his first collegiate game since Matt Coronato in 2021. 
  • Assisted by Heikki Ruhohenen it was also the first time since 2021 that two first-years have recorded their first career points on the same play on opening night since Jack Badini and Henry Bowlby in 2017. 
 CHEVY SHOWCASE
  • Allowing one goal on 36 shots, the ECAC Preseason All-League netminder was stellar for the Crimson against UConn.
  • Tying a career high in saves, Charette helped keep the Crimson in the game in the early goings. 
  • Charette made 36 saves in a loss to Clarkson last December.
  • Including the seven shootout stops, Charette unofficially made 43 saves on 47 shots. 
 OPENING WITH A MARATHON
  • For the second time in three seasons, the Crimson have started the season with a 1-1 tie. 
  • Harvard and the Huskies traded blows in a 10 round shootout on Friday. 
  • In 2023-24, Harvard defeated Dartmouth in the season opener after an 18 round shootout. Then senior netminder, Derek Mullahy made 25 saves in regulation before another 18 stops in the shootout.  
  • In the last three seasons Harvard has played a total of 28 shoutout rounds in its first game of the season. 
JUMBO JOE MILLER
  • Miller enters the season with 78 points in 93 career games, which is good for second in the conference over that time among active skaters.
  • Second in goals and fourth in assists, Miller is third in points per game among active ECAC players entering the season (.839).
AMONG THE NATION'S BEST RETURNERS
  • Seniors Ryan Healey and Joe Miller are among the top returners in the nation this season.
  • Miller's 78 points is 14th in the nation among returning players while slotting in at No. 8 in points per game among the same group.
  • Ryan Healey checks in at No. 9 in goals among returning defensemen with 15 goals in 96 games.
BIG AND TALL
  • Despite being the fourth youngest team in the country, the Crimson is the sixth biggest team and seventh heaviest team in the nation. Last season, Harvard was not ranked in either category.
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
  • The Crimson returns 79 goals this season, ranking sixth in the nation.
  • Trailing only Penn State, UConn, Western Michigan, Holy Cross, Quinnipiac, and Denver, all 10 of Harvard's top goal scorers from last year are back for 2025-26.
  • In their last 12 games, Casey Severo and Mick Thompson have combined for 29 points.
  • Including the exhibition against Northeastern, the duo has 33 points in their last 13 games, with each forward adding two points apiece.
