CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A three-point weekend in a series against the University of Maine helped Harvard women's ice hockey first-year forward,
Elle Sproule, capture ECAC Rookie of the Week Honors. The fourth Rookie of the Week award for the Crimson in the past five weeks, this was Sproule's first ECAC weekly honor. Currently riding a five-game point-streak, Sproule also scored a powerplay goal for Harvard in the second contest against the Black Bears.
Sproule was named the ECAC's Rookie of the Week today (Dec. 2) after posting three points in the Crimson's series against Maine over the weekend (Nov. 28-29). The Connecticut native started off the weekend with an assist – her fifth of the season – in the Friday night matchup which ended in a narrow overtime loss to the Black Bears. Sproule came back strong in game two, helping the Crimson exact revenge over Maine by scoring a goal and adding an assist to lead Harvard to a 5-1 win over the Hockey East foe.
Sproule's effort on Saturday included a powerplay goal – her first career skater-advantage tally – and an assist on another Crimson powerplay strike. Now through her first 12 collegiate games, Sproule owns eight points with two goals and six assists and is sixth among ECAC rookies with .667 points per game.
A Shattuck St. Mary's product, Sproule has quickly established herself as an offensive force for the Crimson. The winger has been playing on the Harvard first line since the second week of the season and has begun to find her stride in the past few weeks. In the team's last five games, Sproule owns eight points with two goals and six assists. The run started with a multi-point game in the win over Dartmouth (Nov. 8) and has since included two more multi-point games against Brown (Nov. 15) and Maine (Nov. 29).
This was the Crimson's fourth ECAC Rookie of the Week honor in the past five weeks after
Izzy Whynot earned the award twice and
Morgan McGathey was selected for the honor two weeks ago. In total, Harvard has collected five ECAC weekly honors this season.
