MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving finished second-day competition on Friday at the Minnesota Invitational. The Crimson, which won the 800 free relay to close the day, finds itself in third place with 844 points. Sixth-ranked California (1,454.50) and Minnesota (955.50) enter Saturday in first and second place, respectively.
Prelims Highlights
- Maro Miknic and Sonny Wang recorded the fifth- and sixth-fastest times in the 100 fly prelims to secure spots in the A-final. Miknic finished in 46.22 (9th all-time at Harvard) and Wang was right behind at 46.29.
- Eric Lee and Richard Poplawski III were among the top performers during the prelims of the 400 IM. Lee came in fifth place with a time of 3:53.22 and Poplawski finished less than a second later in 3:53.68, which was good for seventh.
- Harvard advanced two athletes to the A-final of the 200 free after David Greeley came in fourth (1:36.29) and Marre Gattnar finished in sixth (1:36.86) during the preliminary heats.
- Joshua Chen posted the seventh-best time in the 100-breast field, registering a time of 53.97, which was good enough to advance to the night final.
- Adriano Arioti logged the best 100-back time among Harvard swimmers, finishing in eighth place with a time of 47.92.
Finals Highlights
- The Crimson opened the night session by finishing in fourth place in the 200 medley relay. The group of Evan Croley, Chen, David Schmitt and Greeley completed the opening event in 1:27.14.
- Wang and Miknic came in fifth and seventh, respectively, in the A-final of the 100 fly. Wang finished in 46.64 and Miknic was done in 46.99. Schmitt won the B-final in a season-best 46.82.
- In the A-final of the 400 IM, Poplawski finished in sixth place at 3:54.69, with Lee right behind in seventh (3:56.81).
- Greeley and Gattnar posted season-bests in the 200 free, finishing in 1:35.83 and 1:36.03, respectively. Their performances were good for third and fourth place.
- Chen was one of two Crimson swimmers to compete in the finals of the 100 breast. The sophomore came in sixth place with a time of 54.33. Vito Rados, meanwhile, finished in fifth place (56.15) in the B-final.
- Arioti turned in the 10th-fastest 100-back time in school history as he completed tonight's race in 47.10, which was good for third place.
- On the 1-meter diving board, Raphael Tourette came in third place with a score of 316.65. The team tri-captain was followed by Denny Gulia-Janovski (311.25) and Rem Turatbekov (294.00) in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
- The final event of the night saw the Crimson emerge with a win in the 800 free relay. Greeley, Gattnar, Wang and Croley combined to finish the race in 6:27.61, just over two seconds faster than runner-up Minnesota (6:29.62).
