CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard fencing returned home to Cambridge and impressed the Crimson crowd at Gordon Indoor Track, as the women's and men's teams both beat New York University and fell short against Duke.
The women were dominant in their opening match against New York University, cruising their way to a 21-6 win, their 10
th of the season. Both the foil and saber weapon groups led the way, as they each post identical 8-1 records against New York University. Juniors
Zoe Kim and
Chloe Williams both went a perfect 3-0 in women's saber competition, as senior and two-time Olympic medalist
Lauren Scruggs and sophomore and two-time Olympian
Jessica Zi Jia Guo did the same in women's foil.
In their final match of the day, the women's team fell just short against Duke, 15-12. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Guo collected three wins against the Blue Devils to finish the night a perfect 6-0.
On the men's side, the Crimson dropped its opening match of the day against Duke, 15-12. Sophomore
Daniel Zhang shined in men's foil action against the Blue Devils, winning all three of his bouts in the match.
The men's squad ended the night on a high note, outlasting New York University, 16-11. Zhang continued to shine in men's foil competition, picking up two wins. The men's saber group also excelled in the win against New York University, combining for a record of 7-2, as junior
Matthew Linsky posted three wins in the match.
With the wins against New York University, both Crimson teams own 10-5 records heading into next weekend's 2025 Ivy League Fencing Championships in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Guo led the women's team in wins with six, while Zhang did so with five for the men.
