No. 6 Men’s Squash Fall Short Against No. 1 Penn

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Crimson men's squash team had its return to the Murr Center spoiled by the top-ranked Penn Quakers this afternoon in an 8-1 defeat. The Crimson (5-4, 3-2 Ivy) put up a fight, playing in a number of competitive matches this afternoon in the eventual defeat. Neel Joshi led the way with a win at the three position for the Crimson, improving his individual season record to 8-1.
 

How It Happened

The Crimson returned to its home courts this afternoon to host the nation's top ranked team, the Penn Quakers at the Murr Center. The Crimson played its first match at home in three weeks to open a challenging weekend of squash for the Crimson.
 
The Quakers picked up two wins in the first wave at the four and seven spots to grab an early lead. Jacob Lin's rally was cut short in an eventual 3-1 defeat while Conner Stoltz was just denied of a win in his 2-3 loss at the seven spot. Neel Joshi got back in the win column this afternoon, earning a 3-1 win at the third spot on the ladder. After falling in the first game, Joshi rallied to win three consecutive games and take the win.
 
The Quakers would go on to clinch the match in the second wave with three wins at the first, sixth and eight matches. The Crimson rival would tack on two more wins at the fifth and ninth pairings in the third series of matches to build its lead to 7-1. At the two spot, Denis Gilevskiy was locked in a battle against Nicholas Spizziri. Gilevskiy won the first two matches before falling 9-11 and 9-11 in the third in fourth games. Gilevskiy could not close the door in the decisive fifth game, falling 2-3 after a long battle.
