PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard Women's Swimming and Diving jumped five spots in the team standings to finish Day 2 of the Ivy League Championships in second place. The Crimson won the 500 free and set a new program record in the 50 free en route to 480 team points.
Harvard trails Princeton and its 546.50 points, but finds itself ahead of Yale (356), Penn (324), Brown (306), Dartmouth (224.50), Columbia (199) and Cornell (164).
How It Happened
- Alexandra Bastone followed an outstanding preliminary performance in the 500 free (NCAA B-standard 4:39.70) with an impressive victory in the final to open the night. The sophomore won the event in 4:38.75, setting a new Harvard and pool record. Bastone's time was also the fourth-best in Ivy meet history.
- Kaylee McDonald qualified for the B-final of the 500 free and finished in third place with a personal-best time of 4:51.73.
- Harvard had four swimmers in the A-final of the 200 IM and was paced by Gabriella Augustyn, who finished in fourth place (1:59.70). Stephanie Iannaccone (season-best 1:59.99), Payton Foster (2:00.51) and Aleksandra Denisenko (2:00.95) occupied the sixth through eighth spots. Earlier in the day during the prelims, Denisenko posted a personal-best 1:59.33, to rank fifth in program history. Augustyn (1:59.51) and Foster (2:00.00) also entered the Crimson all-time top 10 at No. 7 and No. 10, respectively.
- In the final individual swimming event of the evening, Anya Mostek set the school record in the 50 free, finishing the race in 22.45 (third place, NCAA B-standard). The junior's effort bested Sara Li's 22.46, which was accomplished in 2013. Sydney Lu (22.66) and Blythe Wieclawek (22.85) came in fourth and seventh, respectively. Mandy Brenner (B-final, 23.31) and Kristín Helga Hákonardóttir (C-final, 24.69) came in eighth place in the consolation heats.
- Elizabeth Miclau took second place on the 1-meter diving board, posting a score of 288.25. The senior was one of three Crimson divers in the A-final, with Nina Janmyr coming in fifth (282.15) and Remi Edvalson in eighth (276.30).
- In the B-final of 1-meter diving, Amy Wotovich posted the second-best score (262.55), with Ennika Carlson coming in fifth (243.60) and Tabitha Chen-Fiske finishing in eighth (227.10).
- The Crimson finished its day with a runner-up performance in the 200 free relay. Mostek, Lu, Brenner and Wieclawek completed the event in 1:30.16, which ranks fourth in program history.
