FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Harvard Women's Swimming and Diving sophomore
Alexandra Bastone finished in 20
th place in the 1,650 freestyle on Saturday evening at the NCAA Championships. The event was Bastone's third in as many days as the Crimson wrapped up action at the national meet.
A native of Greenwich, Connecticut, Bastone finished the race in 16:00.86, one second more than her seed time of 15:59.70, which was good enough to win the Ivy League title and set a program record in the process back in February. Bastone's NCAA-meet time was the best among conference swimmers as Penn's Anna Moehn was the next-closest competitor. Moehn came in 21
st place with a time of 16:03.51.
The race was Bastone's third in three days after she competed in the 500 free and the 200 free on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The sophomore won the 200, 500 and 1,650 free events at the Ivy Championships, helping her capture Co-High Point Swimmer of the Meet honors.
Bastone's performance capped the 13
th straight season in which a Harvard athlete appeared at the NCAA Championships. She, along with diver
Nina Janmyr, marked the fifth and sixth athletes to compete at the national meet under second-year head coach
Amanda Kulik.
