PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A complete effort from the No. 6 Harvard men's squash team this afternoon powered the group into the quarterfinal round at the CSA Team National Championships. All nine players in the Crimson lineup won their respective matches to give the group a sweeping result over the No. 11 Dartmouth Big Green.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson faced off with a familiar foe in the first round of the CSA Team National Championships as the team began its hunt for the Potter Cup. Harvard met its Ivy foe, 11-seeded Dartmouth, on the courts at the Specter U.S. Squash Center in Philadelphia to begin its run at the tournament.
Junior captain
David Costales got the Crimson on the board in the first action of the afternoon, winning his match at ones, 3-1. Costales responded after a first game defeat to rattle off three consecutive game victories and get Harvard on the scoreboard.
Marcus Lee followed up with another 3-1 win at eights, closing the door on his opponent with a 12-10 tiebreak win in the final game of the match.
Jacob Lin sealed the first wave sweep in his match at fours, outlasting his opponent in a 70-minute marathon of a match that finished as a 3-1 win for the Crimson sophomore.
Denis Gilevskiy cruised to a victory at the second position, defeating his opponent in straight games to put Harvard on the cusp of victory. The junior outscored his opponent 33-18 in the win. Senior
Conner Stoltz clinched the match for the Crimson with a 3-1 victory at fives, also coming from behind to claim a victory in the opening round. Stoltz fell in the first game, 9-11, before roaring back to win three consecutive games 11-6, 11-7, 11-3 and win the match for the Crimson.
Neel Joshi was the next member of the team in the win column, earning a 3-0 sweep at threes to pick up his team-leading 13
th victory of the season. First-year
Segev Rome picked up his first career victory in Potter Cup play by outlasting his opponent at sevens to earn the seventh Harvard win of the day. Rome won the first two games of his match before his Dartmouth foe rebounded with two of his own, forcing a fifth game. Rome slammed the door shut with an 11-7 fifth set victory to take the match, 3-2.
Louis Murray also picked up his first career Potter Cup victory with a sweeping 3-0 win at nines. Senior captain,
Tate Harms, completed the Crimson sweep with a 3-1 win at sixes. Playing in a best two-out-of-three match, Harms won the first and third games to take the victory and complete a 9-0 triumph for the Crimson.
