CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing posted three strong efforts on the final weekend of the regular season. The Crimson won Coast Guard Alumni Bowl/NEISA Open Fleet Racing Championship, finished in second at the Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup and took third at the Reed Trophy/NEISA Women's Fleet Racing Championship.
Coast Guard Alumni Bowl/NEISA Open Fleet Racing Championship | Cranston, R.I.Â
Harvard won its third straight NEISA Open Fleet Racing title after finishing with a score of 103, which was 15 points lower than runner-up Boston College.
Justin Callahan, who has been a part of the Crimson's back-to-back-to-back effort was paired with
Christina Chen (1-4, 7-8),
Aidan Pesce (5-6, 9-10) and
Xavier Ayala-Vermont (11-12) in the A-Division.
Mitchell Callahan, meanwhile, shared his B-Division boat with
Rosella Irfan (1-8) and Pesce (9-12).
Â
Harvard's A-entry was impressive from the start, winning the first two races and coming in second place in the third. The Crimson hit a lull in Races 4-8, but never finished worse than seventh (Race 5), to stay atop of the leaderboard. Harvard then put the finishing touches on the weekend by going 2-4-2-7 in the final four races to end with a 46.
Â
The Crimson B-boat was also a model of consistency, posting a finishing line of 1-11-3-1-3-4-7-2 before another 11
th-place showing in Race 9 briefly halted its momentum. Harvard, however, rebounded with a 5-7-2 performance in Races 10-12 to cap a two-day stay in Rhode Island with a score of 57.
Â
With its victory, Harvard, along with BC, earned automatic bids to the ICSA Open Fleet Race National Championship, which is scheduled for May 27-30, in St. Mary's City, Maryland.
Reed Trophy/NEISA Women's Fleet Racing Championship | New Haven, Conn.
The Crimson finished in third place at the abbreviated NEISA Women's Fleet Racing event with a one-day score of 35. Strong winds on Sunday prevented sailors from getting on the water.
Â
Cordelia Burn and
Margo Silliman were Harvard's representatives in the A-Division, while
Zoey Ziskind and
Peyton Hadfield competed in the B-Division.
Â
The duo of Burn-Silliman surrounded a win in Race 2 with a 12
th-place finish in the lidlifting race and an 11
th-place showing in Race 3, to post a 24. Ziskind and Hadfield, meanwhile, started fast, going 3-4-4 to finish with an 11.
Â
With Sunday ultimately being canceled, Harvard finished the regatta behind Yale (13) and Brown (28) and will wait to see if it earns an at-large berth to the ICSA Women's Fleet Race National Championship. That announcement is scheduled for April 29.
Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup | Cambridge, Mass.
Harvard competed at the one-day, three-division Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup and finished in second place on the Charles River with a score of 102, which trailed only Roger Williams (80).
Â
Robby Meek and
Alexandra Dorofeev occupied Harvard's A-Division boat,
Harrison Strom and
Katherine Shin were B-competitors, and
Kate Danielson and
Amelie Zucker went head-to-head with the C-Division.
Â
Meek-Dorofeev was impressive in the A-Division, winning Races 1, 5 and 7, and posting top-3 finishes in all but two races. In those outliers, the duo came in sixth in Race 6 and fifth in Race 5, and ultimately posting a final score of 24.
Â
Strom and Shin registered top-5 performances six times. Their best showing came in the second race of the day when they came in second place. Overall, the duo finished with a 51.
Â
Danielson and Zucker, meanwhile, continued to build off a season of competing together, finishing with a score of 27. The first-year pairing won Races 6-7 and finished in the top-4 nine times, with the lone blemish being a seventh-place effort in Race 5.
