Brosnan, Rosa Qualify for the 10,000m Final at the 2025 NCAA East First Round

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the first times in their careers, Harvard track & field's Ben Rosa and Shane Brosnan will represent the Crimson at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, as the distance duo punched tickets to the 10,000m final at the 2025 NCAA East First Round.

The Ivy League champion in the men's 10,000m and the 5000m, Rosa hung with the lead pack for the majority of the race, securing his spot at Hayward Field by taking fifth place with a time of 29:02.85. Rosa entered the NCAA East First Round with the No. 29 seed time. A late push did the job for Brosnan, as he clinched a spot by taking 12th place after running a 29:19.56, as he clocked a final 400m split of 1:05.21 to get over the line.

Two more Crimson also featured in the men's 10,000m. In a spirited effort, sophomore Charlie Ortmans placed in 14th with a time of 29:24.38, as fellow sophomore Sam Burgess finished the race in 30:02.28 to take 31st.

In the 1500m, sophomore Ferenc Kovacs secured his spot in Friday's quarterfinals with a stellar and savvy run in the final heat of the first round. Paired with the nation's fastest 1500m runner this season in Villanova's Liam Murphy, Kovacs stayed connected with the lead pack from the start, as the Ivy League's champion in the 800m and the 4x800m relay automatically qualified by finishing in third with a time of 3:40.08.

The program's record holder in the men's 1500m (3:37.47), Kovacs time in the first round is his fastest of the 2025 outdoor season and ranked fourth in the field.

Two more Crimson also competed in the opening round of the men's 1500m. Featuring in the opening heat, senior Joe Ewing finished in 21st with a time of 3:42.36, as fellow senior Noah Ward followed suit with a time of 3:44.95 in the next heat to take 34th.
