CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving opened its home schedule in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon at Blodgett Pool, besting Brown, 223–77. The Crimson were undefeated in all swimming events on the day and added runner-up finishes in both diving competitions to cap a commanding performance. With this win, Harvard improves to 5-0 (3-0 Ivy) on the season while Brown drops to 2-4 (1-4).
How it Happened
- Harvard opened the swimming events with a victory in the 200-medley relay. Marre Gattnar, Joshua Chen, David Schmitt and David Greeley touched first with a time of 1:26.83. The Crimson followed immediately with a win in the 1,000 free, as first-year William Mulgrew claimed the top spot in 9:01.84 to give Harvard an early lead.
- That momentum carried into the 200 free, where Anders Aistars edged the field with a winning time of 1:37.85, before Harvard began to string together consecutive event victories. Evan Croley also led a Crimson sweep in the 100 back with a 48.54 performance, and Chen secured his first individual win of the afternoon in the 100 breast, posting a time of 53.56.
- The Crimson continued their dominance in the middle of the meet, going 1-2 in the 200 fly as David Schmitt won the event in 1:46.96, followed closely by Ognjen Pilipovic. Sonny Wang then captured the 50 free in 19.69, extending Harvard's winning streak in the pool.
- In Diving, Raphael Tourette paced the Crimson with a runner-up finish on the 3-meter board, scoring 328.88. Harvard added another second-place result from Chase Shipp in the 1-meter diving competition later in the meet, highlighting a strong showing in both diving events.
- As the afternoon progressed, Harvard continued to control the swimming events. Wang completed a sprint sweep by winning the 100 free in 44.36, while Adriano Arioti claimed the 200 back with a time of 1:42.79. Chen followed with another victory in the 200 breast, touching first in 2:00.13.
- First-years played a key role down the stretch, as Pablo Martinez captured the 500 free in 4:29.36, leading a Crimson sweep of the top three spots. Maro Miknic followed with a win in the 100 fly, posting a time of 47.08. Arioti then secured his second individual victory of the meet by taking the 200 IM in 1:46.94.
- Harvard closed out the home opener in emphatic fashion with a victory in the 400 free relay. The team of Wang, Greeley, Gattnar and Croley combined for a winning time of 2:56.81 to put the final touches on the Crimson's decisive win over Brown.
