Men’s Swimming and Diving to Host Penn, BC on Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving remains at home this weekend, hosting Ivy League opponent Penn and in-town foe Boston College on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Blodgett Pool. The action is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. ET, with the meet set to air live on ESPN+.

What to Know
  • The Crimson are coming off a dominant 223-77 Ivy League victory over Brown last weekend.
  • Harvard placed first in every swimming event, opening the meet with a 1–2 finish in the 200 medley relay, as Marre Gattnar, Joshua Chen, David Schmitt, and David Greeley touched first in 1:26.83. Chen (100 breast, 200 breast), Sonny Wang (50 free, 100 free), and Adriano Arioti (200 back, 200 IM) all won two individual events against Brown. Other victories came from Anders Aistars (200 free), Evan Croley (100 back), Schmitt (200 fly). Wang, Greeley, Gattnar, and Croley capped off the meet with a win in the 400 free relay. 
  • The first-years continued to showcase their depth against Brown. William Mulgrew captured the 1000 free and finished second in the 500 free, while Pablo Martinez earned the win in the 500 free and placed second in the 100 free. Maro Miknic added another first-place finish for Harvard in the 100 fly, rounding out an impressive all-around performance.
  • On the boards, Raphael Tourette (3-meter, 328.88) and Chase Shipp (1-meter, 303.38) each earned runner-up finishes.
  • With this win, the Crimson improved to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in Ivy League competition.
  • This Saturday marks the second consecutive year that Harvard will host a tri-meet with Penn and Boston College. The Crimson were victorious against both opponents last season, defeating the Quakers 207–91 and the Eagles 230–68.
  • Harvard comes into Saturday's meet with a 78-3 all-time advantage in the series against Penn.
  • The Quakers were in action on Tuesday against city rival Drexel and earned a 169.5-127.5 win, improving to 3-4 overall and 2-4 in Ivy League competition.
  • This marks only the third all-time meeting between the Crimson and Eagles. Harvard is 3-0 vs. Boston College, claiming victories in Jan. 2017 (179-112 at Blodgett), Jan. 2020 (159-109 in Coral Gables, Florida), and Jan. 2024 (230-68).
  • Boston College is coming off a trip to North Carolina where they faced ACC opponent UNC and UNC Wilmington. The Eagles have an overall season record of 3-2.

Harvard will welcome Yale and Princeton next week for the annual HYP (Harvard-Yale-Princeton) meet. The two-day regular-season finale is slated for Jan. 30-Jan. 31 at Blodgett Pool and will also be the Crimson's Senior Meet.
