CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving won four events on the first day of the annual Harvard-Yale-Princeton (HYP) meet at Blodgett Pool. One of those victories included a new pool record in the 1000 free. After Friday's action, the Crimson leads Yale, 108-78, but trails Princeton, 95-90.
How It Happened
- Diving kicked off day one of HYP, with Raphael Tourette finishing as Harvard's top scorer. Tourette tallied 328.10 points to secure fourth place.
- The Crimson opened the swimming events with a win in the 200 free relay, edging Princeton's A Relay by 0.14 seconds. The quartet of Sonny Wang, Marre Gattnar, Maro Miknic, and Evan Croley touched the wall at 1:17.58.
- First-year William Mulgrew delivered a standout performance in the 1000 free, breaking the pool record with a time of 8:48.72, the second-fastest time in the Ivy League this season. The previous record of 8:49.45 had stood since 2017. Fellow first-year Pablo Martinez placed second, clocking in at 8:55.23.
- William Browne secured a second-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:35.35.
- Adriano Arioti touched second in a tight race in the 100 back, finishing just 0.38 seconds behind Yale's Jake Wang. Joshua Chen followed with a runner-up finish in the 100 breast, posting a time of 53.36.
- Harvard added two more top-five finishes in the 200 fly, with David Schmitt placing second (1:43.11) and Felipe Baffico taking fourth (1:46.00).
- Maro Miknic added a Crimson victory in the 50 free, touching first at 19.33, just 0.01 seconds shy of the pool record. Wang placed fourth with a time of 19.61.
- Harvard closed the night with a win in the 400 medley relay. Arioti, Chen, Miknic, and Wang combined for a time of 3:08.15, while Yale finished second at 3:09.12.

Harvard returns to Blodgett Pool on Saturday for the second day of competition at the HYP meet. Men's three-meter diving is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. ET, followed by swimming events at 1:00 p.m. ET. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+.
