Men's Hockey Meets No. 12 Boston College in 73rd Beanpot

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard men's hockey is set to face No. 12 Boston College in the first round of the Dunkin' Beanpot. 

PUCK DROP
  • The Crimson and nationally ranked Eagles are set to face-off in the early game at the 73rd Dunkin' Men's Beanpot. 
  • Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and will stream live on NESN.  
  • Harvard has played the Eagles in each of the last four seasons with the Eagles winning three of the last four games. 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Crimson came from behind to defeat RPI by a score of 3-1 on Friday night. 
  • Down 1-0 late in the second period, Sean Keohane scored his first collegiate goal to tie the game heading into the third. 
  • Chase Stefanek added his second goal of the season to give Harvard the lead in the third before Keohane hit the empty netter for his second of the night. 
  • Justin Solovey added two helpers in his return to the lineup. His line combined for five points on the night.
  • Sean Keohane became the first Crimson to score his first collegiate goal and add another in the same game since Matt Coronato in 2021-22.
CRIMSON AND EAGLES AT THE BEANPOT 
  • Dating back to 1952, the Crimson has picked up 15 wins over Boston College in the Beanpot. 
  • Harvard defeated Boston College in 1954 to win its second title in the first three seasons of the historic tournament. 
  • Boston College defeated the Crimson the last time the two met in the third-place game three years ago.
  • Harvard's last win in the opening game of the Beanpot came against the Eagles in the 2022-23 season when Marek Hejduk scored the game winning goal in overtime with nearly no time left on the clock.  
  • The Eagles own a 31-15-1 record over the Crimson in the Beanpot. 
MICK AMONG BOSTON'S BEST 
  • Of the players who have played 20+ games this season among Beanpot Schools, Mick Thompson is third in points per game (1.10) trailing only first round pick James Hagens (1.19) and Northeastern's Dylan Hryckowian (1.29).
  • Thompson is the only skater who is above a point per game on the Crimson. 
  • Among the four schools, Thompson is one of four skaters who are over a point a game in their career joining Hagens, Hryckowian, and Quinn Hutson of Boston University. 
FROM THE GARDEN AND BACK
  • Mick Thompson leads Beanpot skaters in points per game since the 2025 tournament with 38 points in his last 31 games. 
THE CLASS OF 2026
  • Ted Drury '93 was announced as this year's inductee into the Beanpot Hall of Fame.
  • The 1993 Beanpot MVP, Drury would score the eventual game winning goal in a 4-2 win over Boston University to become just the 10th Crimson skater to be named the games most outstanding player at the time. 
  • Throughout the 1993 Beanpot run, Drury led the team as captain and added six points in two games. 
  • Drury joins his brother Chris who was inducted into the Beanpot Hall of Fame in 2009 with Boston University and becomes the 14th Crimson to be inducted into the tournament's most prestigious honor. 
FROM PLAYER TO COACH 
  • Head Coach Ted Donato and Assistant Coach Matt Gilroy are no strangers to Beanpot fame as the two have a combined four titles.
  • Gilroy won in three of his four seasons as a Terrier from 2005-09, while Donato was on the 1989 Beanpot team that would go on to win the national championship. 
  • Matt Gilroy and Harvard alum Lane MacDonald are two of five players all-time to win the Hobey Baker and National Championship in same season while being the only two players in the 73 years of the Beanpot to win the Hobey Baker, National Championship, and Beanpot in the same season. 
AMONG THE COACHES 
  • Ted Donato is the only Beanpot coach with 100+ NCAA wins. 
  • Donato and Jay Pandolfo are the only two active Beanpot coaches who won a Beanpot title as a player. 
DONATO ON GARDEN ICE
  • In nine seasons as a player in Boston, Ted Donato and the Bruins went 182-114-55-2 on home ice bringing his all-time record as a player and coach to 194-133-56-7.
LATE NIGHTS DOWNTOWN 
  • Since 2010-11 the Crimson has played in eight overtime games at the Beanpot including two double overtime games. 
  • Harvard has a 2-5-1 record in Beanpot overtime games. 
BEANPOT FIRSTS
  • Last season, Massachusetts native Ben MacDonald scored the first goal for the Crimson in the first round against Northeastern. 
  • Fellow rookie Matthew Morden scored his first career goal from the point to give the Crimson a 2-1 lead in the third period. 
BOSTON BOYS
  • The Crimson has the most Massachusetts natives among any Beanpot school with 10.
ON HOME ICE
  • Of the eight Bruins draft picks playing in the Beanpot, Andre Gasseau and Mason Langenbrunner are the only two players to record multiple goals. 
  • Drafted in back-to-back years, they are the only Bruins prospects to also score a game winning goal on TD Garden ice. 
CHUTDOWN CHEVY
  • Ben Charette helped backstop the second four game win streak of the season for the Crimson after stopping 103 of 106 shots over a stretch of four games in seven days.
  • From the third period of the game against Clarkson to the third period against Colgate a week later the sophomore netminder had not allowed a goal which marks a streak of 135 consecutive minutes without a goal – the most since the 2012-13 season.
THREE TWENTY-FIVE
  • Ted Donato became the winningest coach in program history with his 325th career win on Dec. 3 against Brown.
  • Donato is one of just seven active coaches with 325-plus career victories.
  • He passed Ralph "Cooney" Weiland for second all-time in program history following last season's opening-round playoff win against RPI.
  • Donato ranks 49th all-time in NCAA history in career victories, with only 10 active coaches owning more wins.
INTERNATIONAL CRIM
  • Heikki Ruohonen returns after competing in the IIHF World Junior Championships with the Finnish National Team.
  • Ruohonen earned Player of the Game honors after scoring the game-tying goal against the United States in the quarterfinals.
  • Finland finished fourth after falling to Canada in the bronze medal game.
  • An alternate captain in his second U20 tournament, Ruohonen posted three goals and six assists in seven games in Minneapolis.
  • Across two World Junior tournaments, he recorded 17 points in 14 games.
MORE MORDY
  • Matthew Morden had a career weekend at Bright as part of the three-game sweep beginning on Jan. 16.
  • Morden became the first Crimson defenseman since Henry Thrun to score a shorthanded goal in the win over St. Lawrence.
  • Morden, who has already set a new career high in points, added five points in three games over the weekend.
SHORTHANDED SPECIAL
  • Mick Thompson and Richard Gallant each scored shorthanded goals against Dartmouth.
  • It marked Harvard's first shorthanded goals of the season.
  • Dating back to 1947, Harvard has scored two shorthanded goals in a game just four times.
  • The last instance came when Ryan Donato and Sean Malone both scored shorthanded goals.
  • The Crimson also accomplished the feat twice during the 2016 season, including the opener against ASU.
CARDIAC CRIMSON
  • Harvard scored three unanswered goals in under eight minutes to force overtime against No. 1 Michigan.
  • The comeback marked the first time since the 2022-23 season that the Crimson erased a three-goal third-period deficit to tie a game.
THE 729
  • The line of Philip TrescaCasey Severo, and Mick Thompson has been highly productive since forming late last season.
  • After coming together in the 25th game of last season, the trio produced 34 points over the final 10 games.
  • This season, the line has totaled 52 points through 20 games, giving them 86 points over their last 30 games.
FOURTH LINE GRIND
  • The fourth line of Salvatore Guzzo, William Hughes, and Marek Hejduk has been strong all season.
  • The trio scored its eighth goal of the year against Princeton and has found the net in eight of 20 games.
MICKY THREES
  • Mick Thompson recorded the fifth and sixth three-point games of his career last week on home ice.
  • The Ontario native has all six three-point games within his last 13 games.
  • Since 2002-03, Mick Thompson ranks eighth among Crimson skaters who have recorded multiple three-point games through just 37 career games.
  • Those in front of him are Adam Fox (97 career games), Casey Dornbach (131 career games), Sean Malone (115 career games), current Crimson forward Joe Miller, Sean Farrell (58 career games), Nick Abruzzese (59 career games), and Tyler Moy (131 career games).
ROOKIE RESURGENCE CLUTCH CASEY
  • In 2023-24, seven of Casey Severo's eight goals either tied the game, cut the deficit to one, or gave Harvard the lead.
  • In 2024-25, 10 of his 16 goals tied the game or gave the Crimson the lead, with two more extending the lead to two.
  • Over the past three seasons, 20 of his 32 goals have been go-ahead, game-tying, or deficit-cutting tallies.
HOME COOKING
  • With its eighth home win of the season, it is the second-most wins at Bright-Landry in a single season at this point in the year, trailing only the 2022-23 team that had nine.
ALL HANDS ON DECK
  • The 7-3 win over Brown marked the first time this season a Harvard skater scored multiple goals in a game where the Crimson tallied five or more
