Emerance Maschmeyer ’16, Team Canada Compete for Gold Medal Today

MILAN, Italy – For the second consecutive season, Harvard women's hockey alum Emerance Maschmeyer '16 will compete for an Olympic Gold Medal with Team Canada. The former Harvard star and her teammates will take on the United States in the Gold Medal Game this afternoon at 1:10 PM, with the game set to air on NBC and Peacock. Maschmeyer and the Canadians will look to capture its second consecutive season when it hits in the ice in Milan.
 
Maschmeyer has been a steady presence during this Olympic tournament, clocking 128 minutes across 3 appearances with a current overall save percentage of 0.957. Her highlight came on February 7th, when she turned away all the shots she faced in a flawless, 60-minute shutout against Switzerland. She followed up with another strong match against Germany on February 14th, conceding a single goal on 11 shots to help secure the win. In a tough matchup that would turn into a 5-1 loss against the United States on February 10th, Maschmeyer stepped in for the final 8 minutes to provide a composed finish to the game.
 
No stranger to performing at a global level, the goalie also represented her nation in two games on the journey to winning gold with Team Canada in the 2022 Winter Olympics Games in Beijing. Both appearances resulted in wins. She accepted her medal with a total of 23 saves, a 0.50 goals against average, and a save percentage of .957.
 
A Crimson women's ice hockey legend, Maschmeyer played four seasons for Harvard from 2012-2016 and still stands as the program leader in career saves with 2,538. Her career save percentage of .940 and career GAA are both second-best in program history. She won 59 career games at Harvard, leading the team to the 2015 National Championship Game and three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in 2013, '14, and '15. She is now the primary starting goaltender for the PWHL's Vancouver Goldeneyes as she represents the team in their inaugural season.
