PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving captured the 1000 Free title, breaking the DeNunzio Pool, Ivy League, and program records to help the Crimson remain in third place Thursday at the Ivy League Championships.
After day three, Harvard (785.5) sits in third place behind Princeton (952) and Yale (874.5), and ahead of Brown (586), Cornell (581), Columbia (580.5), Dartmouth (466), and Penn (444.5).
Prelims Highlights
- David Schmitt recorded a season-best 45.82 in the 100 fly to earn a spot in the A-final. Maro Miknic (46.35) and Sonny Wang (46.01, season-best) also qualified for the A-final. Oliver Pilkinton (46.88) and Felipe Baffico (47.24) each posted season-best times to advance to the B-final.
- In the 400 IM, Richard Poplawski III (3:52.19) secured a B-final berth, while Eric Lee (3:53.24) qualified for the C-final.
- Joshua Chen clinched a place in the 100 breast A-final with a season-best 53.16.
- In the 100 back, Adriano Arioti posted a season-best 45.93, the third-fastest time in program history and second-fastest in prelims, to qualify for the A-final. Schmitt also clinched an A-final spot after swimming a season-best 47.06. Pilkinton (47.44) advanced to the B-final, while Evan Croley (47.92) secured a C-final berth.
- In three-meter diving, Rem Turatbekov placed seventh with 322.70 points to earn a spot in the A-final. Denny Gulia-Janovski (311.10) finished ninth to qualify for the B-final.
Finals Highlights
- The evening session opened with a record-shattering swim from first-year William Mulgrew in the 1000 free. His time of 8:38.01 broke the DeNunzio Pool, Ivy League, and Harvard records and now ranks third nationally. Fellow first-year Pablo Martinez claimed bronze with a season-best 8:53.77.
- In the 100 fly A-final, Schmitt placed second with a season-best 45.44. Miknic (45.99) and Wang (46.16) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. In the B-final, Pilkinton (47.12) placed fourth and Baffico (47.40) took sixth.
- Poplawski placed fifth in the 400 IM B-final with a season-best 3:50.18, while Lee won the C-final with a personal-best 3:50.31.
- Greeley earned bronze in the 200 free A-final with a 1:34.39. In the B-final, Gattnar (1:35.55) and Browne (1:36.74) finished third and fifth, respectively.
- Chen placed eighth in the 100 breast A-final with a time of 53.22.
- Arioti clocked a 46.01 to finish third in the 100 back A-final, while Schmitt placed sixth with another season-best 46.77. Pilkinton (47.65) finished fifth in the B-final, and Croley won the C-final with a season-best 47.67.
- Gulia-Janovski represented Harvard in the three-meter consolation final, placing fourth with 323.65 points.
- In the final event of the evening, Harvard earned a runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay. The quartet of Arioti, Chen, Schmitt, and Wang touched in 3:05.83 to claim silver.
