CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Mick Thompson was named the ECAC Laurel Lake Placid Forward of the Week, while Heikki Ruohonen earned his first ECAC Rookie of the Week honors after the pair helped lead the Crimson to a 4-3 overtime win over St. Lawrence on Friday night.
Thompson recorded a goal and an assist against St. Lawrence as the Crimson set to advance to their 10th consecutive ECAC Quarterfinals matchup this coming week. Assisting on Aidan Lane's game-tying goal midway through the first period, Thompson was the overtime hero after burying his own rebound with 1:40 left in the first overtime period. Thompson also earned ECAC weekly honors after the opening round last season and has recorded five points over two opening-round games in his career.
Ruohonen also finished the single-elimination game with a pair of points after scoring the game-tying goal while shorthanded to make it 2-2, before assisting on Michael Callow's goal late in the third period to force overtime. Ruohonen has scored in three straight games for the Crimson and becomes just the second rookie since 2002 to have a shorthanded goal in the playoffs. Ruohonen's last three goals have either tied the game or given the Crimson the lead, as the Helsinki native has four points in his last three games since returning to the lineup from injury.
Harvard heads to Cornell for the ECAC Quarterfinals, with Game One on Friday night from Lynah Rink.
