Softball Begins Homestand with Midweek Meeting Against Boston University

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard softball is back at Soldiers Field on Tuesday, Apr. 14, as the Crimson host crosstown rival Boston University. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. as all the action will air live on ESPN+. Admission to Soldiers Field is free of charge.

CRIMSON UPDATES
  • Harvard is 16-15-1 at the midway point of its Ivy League campaign, as the Crimson stands alone in second place in the Ivy League standings with an 8-4 record in Ivy League action.
  • In Providence, Rhode Island over the weekend, Harvard regrouped after losing the series opener against Brown to take the series against the Bears.
  • Game two of the series saw Harvard earn a 5-1 win against Brown, as senior pitcher Riley Flynn shined in the circle, only allowing one run and two hits with five strikeouts in a complete game effort.
  • Harvard's offense exploded in the series finale, as the Crimson took the series with a 10-2 victory. Senior infielder Finley Payne paced the Harvard offense, tallying a career-high five RBIs with two hits. Coming out of the bullpen this time, Flynn held the Brown bats at bay, holding the hosts scoreless in five-straight innings.
  • The Crimson's pitching staff held the Bears to a .178 batting average in the weekend series, as Flynn led the way with a 0.57 earned run average across 12.1 innings.
  • First-year infielder Hannah Ziecik posted team highs in batting average (.556), hits (5) and on-base percentage (.636) across three starts against Brown.
  • Harvard leads the Ivy League in earned run average (3.36), strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.25) and is second in both strikeouts per seven innings (5.76) and WHIP (1.53).
  • The Crimson's team captains this season are senior pitcher Ryan Grace, junior outfielder Audrey Szollosi and junior utility Megan Davies.
  • Head coach Jenny Rohn is in her third season at the helm of the Harvard softball program, leading Harvard to the Ivy League Tournament in consecutive seasons and an Ivy League regular season title in 2024. Rohn is 104-92-1 in her coaching career and 69-45-1 in her Harvard tenure.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
  • Boston University is 33-11 this season, as the Terriers are 11-1 in Patriot League play this season.
  • The defending Patriot League Tournament champion, Boston University swept Colgate on the road last weekend, extending its winning streak to seven games.
  • Boston University ranks fourth nationally in shutouts with 14 this season.
SERIES HISTORY
  • A series that started in 1981, Boston University leads the all-time series with Harvard, 31-21. The Terriers own a six game winning streak in the series.
  • Last season saw Boston University take a 2-0 win at BU Softball Field.
  • Harvard is searching for its first win against Boston University since 2019.
LIGHTS OUT
  • Harvard's pitching is excelling this season, as the Crimson's pitching staff is defined by its skill and depth.
  • After 32 contests, Harvard leads the Ivy League with a 3.36 team ERA, only one of two teams in the Ivy League with a team ERA below 4.00 this season.
  • Junior pitcher Nicolette Hunter, who won Ivy League Pitcher of the Week in back-to-back weeks earlier this season, is tied Ivy League lead in ERA (2.41) and ranks third in strikeouts with 70. An All-Ivy League Second Team selection last season, Hunter has tossed a team-high three complete games this season.
  • Grace's 2.55 ERA ranks fourth in the Ivy League this season, as the Sammamish, Washington also ranks fourth with a .264 opposing batting average.
  • Harvard is the only team in the Ivy League to have multiple pitchers with an ERA below 3.00 this season.
R.O.Y FACTORY
  • The last three Ivy League Rookies of the Year are all products of the Crimson, as Harvard is the first school in conference history to produce three consecutive Rookie of the Year honorees.
  • In 2025, sophomore utility Alexa Muller won Ivy League Rookie of the Year after shining at the plate, especially in conference play.
  • Muller led all first-years last season in the Ancient Eight in batting average (.368) and hits (28). A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Muller ranked third in batting average (.436) and second in on-base percentage (.515) in Ivy League contests last season.
  • The 2024 season saw Sun orchestrate one of the greatest rookie seasons in recent memory, leading all first-years in the NCAA in slugging percentage (.797) and ranked third among all first-years in the nation in batting average (.421).
  • Flynn was the 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year after setting a new program record for saves in a season with six, as the Phoenix, Arizona native was the 2023 Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player after tallying 11 innings in all three wins for the Crimson.
  • Forbes is a two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week honoree this season, as the Naples, Florida native leads Harvard with a .477 on-base percentage and ranks second on the team with a .371 batting average. Against Ivy League foes this year, Forbes leads all Crimson with a .462 batting average and a .563 on-base percentage.
HERE COMES THE SUN
  • Now in her third season with the Crimson, Sun is one of the most explosive and exciting offensive talents in the Ivy League.
  • Starting in all 32 games at shortstop this season, Sun leads Harvard in OPS (1.076), RBIs (35), total bases (67) and slugging percentage (.632). Sun ranks in the top five in the Ivy League in RBIs this season.
  • The first student-athlete in conference history to win Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season, Sun ranked in the top five in the Ivy League in batting average (.411), on-base percentage (.469), runs scored (33), hits (53) and total bases (81) during the 2025 season.
  • A 2024 Top 10 Finalist for the Tucci/NFCA Freshman of the Year award, Sun is the current all-time program leader in slugging percentage (.692). With her grand slam against Cornell, Sun became just the seventh Crimson in program history to record 100 career RBIs.
IVY LEAGUE EXCELLENCE
  • Over the last five full seasons, Harvard is one of the top softball programs in the Ivy League, owning a league-best 90-36 record in conference play from 2018 to 2025.
  • In that time span, Harvard is the only team in the Ancient Eight to not drop double-digit conference games in a single season.
  • Harvard won back-to-back Ivy League regular season titles in 2023 and 2024, as it won the inaugural Ivy League Tournament in Princeton in 2023.\
