Softball Continues Homestand Against Stonehill Tomorrow

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard softball is back on the diamond tomorrow, as the Crimson welcome Stonehill to Cambridge for a 4 p.m. nonconference showdown. Admissions to Soldiers Field are free of charge and all the action will air live on ESPN+.

CRIMSON UPDATES

  • With two weekends left in the regular season, Harvard is 18-17-1, currently sitting in second place with a 10-5 record in Ivy League play.
  • Over the weekend, Harvard earned another series win in Ancient Eight action, taking the first two contests against Penn before dropping the series finale against the Quakers.
  • The series opener saw Harvard breeze past Penn in an 8-0 run-rule victory, marking Harvard's first run-rule triumph at Soldiers Field this season. Junior infielder Sophie Sun started the scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning, as senior pitcher Riley Flynn tossed a complete game shutout, picking up six strikeouts while only allowing two hits.
  • Harvard secured the series victory with a 11-6 victory to close out the doubleheader on Saturday. Sophomore infielder Alexa Muller led the way with three hits and two RBIs. Along with Muller, Sun and first-year infielder Hannah Ziecik also drove in multiple runs.
  • In the series against Penn, Harvard thrived at the plate with two outs, driving in 18 runs and batting .459 with two outs on the scoreboard.
  • Across the four contests last week, senior infielder Finley Payne led all Crimson with a .583 batting average, seven hits and a 1.000 slugging percentage, hitting a two-run home run against the Quakers in the series finale.
  • Harvard ranks second in the Ivy League in earned run average (3.70), shutouts (4) and strikeouts per seven innings (5.52).
  • Harvard's team captains this season are senior pitcher Ryan Grace, junior outfielder Audrey Szollosi and junior utility Megan Davies.
  • Head coach Jenny Rohn is in her third season at the helm of the Harvard softball program. Leading the Crimson to back-to-back trips to the Ivy League Tournament and a share of the Ivy League regular season title in 2024, Rohn is 106-94-1 in her career and 71-47-1 in her Harvard tenure.

SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS

  • Stonehill brings a 9-30 record with a 6-12 mark in Northeast Conference action.
  • Last weekend saw the Skyhawks fall in the series opener against Le Moyne, 2-4, and then split the doubleheader against the Dolphins.
  • Sophomore outfielder Taylor Schoonmaker leads the Skyhawks at the plate with a .373 batting average.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Harvard leads the series against Stonehill, 6-2, with the first meeting arriving during the 1983 season.
  • Tomorrow's showdown between the Crimson and Skyhawks represents the first meeting between the two programs since 1992.

LIGHTS OUT

  • Harvard's pitching staff is excelling in the circle again this season, as the Crimson's pitching is defined by its skill and depth.
  • After 36 contests, Harvard ranks second in the Ivy League in both ERA (3.70) and leads the league with 188 strikeouts. Harvard is only one of three teams in the Ivy League with a ERA below 4.00 this year.
  • Junior pitcher Nicolette Hunter, who won Ivy League Pitcher of the Week twice so far this season, ranks third in ERA (2.73) and fifth in strikeouts (73). A native of Camarillo, California, Hunter earned All-Ivy League Second Team honors last season.
  • Grace's 3.27 ERA ranks fifth in the Ivy League this season, as the Sammamish, Washington native ranks fifth in opposing average with a mark of .263.
  • The 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Flynn posted a 1.85 earned run average as the Phoenix, Arizona native ranks third in the conference with a .253 opposing batting average.

R.O.Y FACTORY

  • The last three Ivy League Rookies of the Year are all products of the Crimson, as Harvard is the first school in conference history to produce three consecutive Rookie of the Year honorees.
  • Muller won Ivy League Rookie of the Year after shining at the plate, especially in conference play.
  • A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Muller led all first-years last season in the Ancient Eight in batting average (.368) and hits (28). A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Muller ranked third in batting average (.436) and second in on-base percentage (.515) in Ivy League contests last season.
  • The 2024 season saw Sun orchestrate one of the greatest rookie seasons in recent memory, leading all first-years in the NCAA in slugging percentage (.797) and ranked third among all first-years in the nation in batting average (.421).
  • Flynn was the 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year after setting a new program record for saves in a season with six, as the Phoenix, Arizona native was the 2023 Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player after tallying 11 innings in all three wins for the Crimson.
  • First-year outfielder Sheila Forbes is a two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week honoree this season, as the Naples, Florida native ranks fifth on the Crimson with a .352 batting average and second with a .452 on-base percentage. Against Ivy League opposition, Forbes leads all Crimson with a .431 batting average and a .525 on-base percentage in Ancient Eight play.

HERE COMES THE SUN

  • Now in her third season with the Crimson, Sun is one of the most explosive and exciting offensive talents in the Ivy League.
  • Starting in all 36 games at shortstop this season, Sun leads Harvard in OPS (1.065), RBIs (40), slugging percentage (.633) and total bases this season (.633). Sun ranks in the top five in RBIs with 40 this season.
  • The first student-athlete in conference history to win Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season, Sun ranked in the top five in the Ivy League in batting average (.411), on-base percentage (.469), runs scored (33), hits (53) and total bases (81) during the 2025 season.
  • A 2024 Top 10 Finalist for the Tucci/NFCA Freshman of the Year award, Sun is the current all-time program leader in slugging percentage (.688). With her grand slam against Cornell, Sun became just the seventh Crimson in program history to record 100 career RBIs.

IVY LEAGUE EXCELLENCE

  • Over the last five full seasons, Harvard is one of the top softball programs in the Ivy League, owning a league-best 90-36 record in conference play from 2018 to 2025.
  • In that time span, Harvard is the only team in the Ancient Eight to not drop double-digit conference games in a single season.
  • Harvard won back-to-back Ivy League regular season titles in 2023 and 2024, as it won the inaugural Ivy League Tournament in Princeton in 2023.

  • Harvard softball is rolling with a roster that pulls talent from across the nation this season.
