CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A new chapter in the storied rivalry between Harvard softball and Princeton is arriving this weekend, as the Crimson welcome the Tigers to Soldiers Field on Saturday, Apr. 25 and Sunday, Apr. 26 for a three-game Ivy League series.
Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. while Sunday's series finale will begin at 12:30 as well. Admissions to Soldiers Field are free of charge, as game one will air live on NESN+ with the rest of the series broadcasting live on ESPN+.
CRIMSON UPDATES
- Harvard brings a 19-17-1 to the diamond this weekend, as the Crimson is 9-3 in its last 12 contests.
- The Crimson concluded its nonconference slate earlier this week, taking down Northeast Conference foe Stonehill, 11-4, at Soldiers Field.
- Junior pitcher Nicolette Hunter enjoyed a career-day at the plate against the Skyhawks, recording a career-best six RBIs on two hits, one of them being a three-run home run. A native of Camarillo, California, Hunter also tossed four scoreless innings out of the bullpen, picking up five strikeouts and only allowing one hit in the process.
- Harvard scored 11 runs on 13 hits against Stonehill, as the Crimson have now scored 11 runs in two of the last three contests.
- Across the last four outings, Harvard is batting .457 with two outs, scoring 19 of its 38 runs with two outs as well.
- Harvard ranks second in the Ivy League in earned run average (3.71), strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.02) and strikeouts per seven innings (5.65).
- First-year infielder Hannah Ziecik is maintaining a nine-game hitting streak heading into the weekend, the longest active hitting streak on Harvard. A native of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Ziecik has also reached base safely in 12-straight contests.
- Harvard is led by team captains senior pitcher Ryan Grace, junior outfielder Audrey Szollosi and junior utility Megan Davies.
- Head coach Jenny Rohn is in her third season at the helm of the Harvard softball program. Leading the Crimson to back-to-back trips to the Ivy League Tournament and a share of the Ivy League regular season title in 2024, Rohn is 107-94-1 in her head coaching career and 72-47-1 in her Harvard tenure.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- Princeton is 26-11 this season, as the Tigers currently sit in first place of the Ivy League standings with a 14-1 record in conference play.
- Last weekend saw Princeton take the first two games of its series with Yale on the road, as Princeton fell in the series, 7-6, after 10 innings.
- The Tigers currently lead the Ivy League with a 3.09 team ERA and rank second with a .343 team batting average.
SERIES HISTORY
- Either Harvard or Princeton have won the last eight Ivy League regular season titles, as Princeton leads the all-time series, 61-42.
- Last season saw the Crimson and Tigers faceoff four times on the softball diamond, as Princeton won all four meetings.
- Harvard is 3-3 against Princeton in the last six contests held at Soldiers Field.
LIGHTS OUT
- Harvard's pitching staff is excelling in the circle again this season, as the Crimson's pitching is defined by its skill and depth.
- After 37 contests, Harvard ranks second in ERA (3.71) and leads the Ivy League in strikeouts (198). Harvard is only one of three teams in the Ivy League with an ERA below 4.00 this year.
- Hunter, who has won Ivy League Pitcher of the Week twice so far this season, is currently third in ERA (2.62) and strikeouts (78) this season. A native of Camarillo, California, Hunter earned All-Ivy League Second Team honors last season.
- Grace's 3.27 ERA is fifth in the Ivy League this year, as the Sammamish, Washington native also ranks fifth in the conference with a .263 opposing batting average.
- The 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Flynn's 2.88 ERA in conference play is sixth in the Ivy League this year.
R.O.Y FACTORY
- The last three Ivy League Rookies of the Year are all products of the Crimson, as Harvard is the first school in conference history to produce three consecutive Rookie of the Year honorees.
- Muller won Ivy League Rookie of the Year after shining at the plate, especially in conference play.
- A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Muller led all first-years last season in the Ancient Eight in batting average (.368) and hits (28). A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Muller ranked third in batting average (.436) and second in on-base percentage (.515) in Ivy League contests last season.
- The 2024 season saw junior infielder Sophie Sun orchestrate one of the greatest rookie seasons in recent memory, leading all first-years in the NCAA in slugging percentage (.797) and ranked third among all first-years in the nation in batting average (.421).
- Flynn was the 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year after setting a new program record for saves in a season with six, as the Phoenix, Arizona native was the 2023 Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player after tallying 11 innings in all three wins for the Crimson.
- First-year outfielder Sheila Forbes is a two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week honoree this year, as the Naples, Florida native ranks fourth on the Crimson with a .361 batting average and second with a .461 on-base percentage. Against Ivy League opposition, Forbes leads all Crimson with a .431 batting average and a .525 on-base percentage.
HERE COMES THE SUN
- Now in her third season with the Crimson, Sun is one of the most explosive and exciting offensive talents in the Ivy League.
- Starting in all 37 games at shortstop this season, Sun leads Harvard in OPS (1.100), RBIs (41), slugging percentage (.659) and total bases this season (81). Sun ranks in the top five in RBIs with 41 in the Ivy League this season.
- The first student-athlete in conference history to win Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season, Sun ranked in the top five in the Ivy League in batting average (.411), on-base percentage (.469), runs scored (33), hits (53) and total bases (81) during the 2025 season.
- A 2024 Top 10 Finalist for the Tucci/NFCA Freshman of the Year award, Sun is the current all-time program leader in slugging percentage (.696) and batting average (.403). With her grand slam against Cornell, Sun became just the seventh Crimson in program history to record 100 career RBI.
IVY LEAGUE EXCELLENCE
- Over the last five full seasons, Harvard is one of the top softball programs in the Ivy League, owning a league-best 90-36 record in conference play from 2018 to 2025.
- In that time span, Harvard is the only team in the Ancient Eight to not drop double-digit conference games in a single season.
- Harvard won back-to-back Ivy League regular season titles in 2023 and 2024, as it won the inaugural Ivy League Tournament in Princeton in 2023.
