Football Announces Future Games Against Perennial Postseason Participants

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Football is set to play four first-time opponents in future seasons, with reigning national champion Montana State, 2025 NCAA quarterfinalist UC Davis, 10-time FCS Playoff participant Wofford, and perennial postseason qualifier Richmond all lined up to face the Crimson.

"We are excited for the opportunity to expand the Harvard Football brand to new parts of the country and continuing to maximize the student-athlete experience for our team," said Andrew Aurich, The Thomas Stephenson Family Head Coach for Harvard Football.

The Crimson will face a UC Davis program in 2027 (home) and 2031 (away), that finished the 2025 campaign ranked No. 8 in the final Stats Perform FCS Top 25 and AFCA Coaches Poll, and reached the quarterfinal round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs after earning an at-large bid. The Aggies completed 2025 with a 9-4 record (6-2 Big Sky) and are 20-7 (13-3 Big Sky) over the last two seasons, with a pair of playoff appearances.

Harvard is set to face one of the premier FCS teams in Montana State in 2028. The Bobcats won the 2026 NCAA FCS Championship, beating Illinois State in overtime, 35-34. MSU has appeared in the last two title games and competed for the national crown three times in the last five years. Beginning with their run to the 2021 title game, the Bobcats have gone 12-4 in the postseason. The 2025 edition ended the year on a 14-game winning streak, registered a 14-2 record (8-0 Big Sky) and topped both national top-25 polls.

Wofford will travel to Cambridge to face Harvard in 2028. In three full seasons under head coach Shawn Watson, the Terriers increased their win total each year going from two wins in 2023, to five in 2024, before ending 2025 on a four-game winning streak (19.0 average margin of victory) en route to a 6-6 finish (5-3 SoCon). The Terriers last advanced to the FCS Playoffs in 2019, which was the program's fourth consecutive appearance and seventh of the 2010s.

The Crimson will play a Richmond team in 2031 (home) and 2032 (away) that has earned an NCAA FCS Playoff berth three of the last four years and won games in two of those trips to the postseason. The Spiders started the 2025 campaign slowly, but were 6-3 down the stretch to end the year at 7-5 (3-4 Patriot League). The way Richmond closed the season caught the eye of AFCA Coaches Poll votes as it received votes in the final edition of the rankings (T-32nd).

Harvard, meanwhile, is coming off winning its third straight Ivy League title and earning an NCAA FCS Playoff at-large berth in 2025. The Crimson finished the year at 9-2 (6-1 Ivy) and appeared in both final top-25 polls (No. 20 – Stats Perform, No. 23 – AFCA Coaches) after rising to as high as No. 7 in the Stats Perform rankings.

The Crimson will be led in 2026 by team captain and running back Xaviah Bascon, along with four All-America candidates in Spencer Doan (OL), Damien Henderson (DB), Thomas O'Brien (OL) and Sean Line (LB). All five players were All-Ivy League selections in '25, with Doan, O'Brien and Line earning first-team accolades. Bascon and Henderson, meanwhile, were second-team picks.

Harvard will open the 2026 campaign on Sept. 19, when it faces 2025 NCAA Playoff participant New Hampshire on the road. After playing at Brown the following week (Sept. 26), the Crimson will make its home debut on Oct. 3, vs. Colgate. Season tickets for the 2026 home schedule are available at GoCrimson.com.
