Three Crimson Earn NFCA Northeast All-Region Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A trio of Harvard softball standouts are National Fastpitch Coaches Association Northeast All-Region selections, as junior infielder Sophie Sun is a NFCA Northeast All-Region First Team honoree, while senior infielder Finley Payne and junior pitcher/utility Nicolette Hunter earn spots on the NFCA Northeast All-Region Third Team.

Now a three-time NFCA Northeast All-Region honoree, Sun was once again superb offensively for the Crimson throughout the duration of the 2026 season, leading Harvard in batting average (.392), OPS (1.160), hits (60), runs (41), doubles (10), home runs (13), RBIs (51), slugging percentage (.712) and on-base percentage (.448) while starting all 45 contests at shortstop this season. A native of Austin, Texas, Sun is only one of three student-athletes in school history to record 50 or more RBIs in a single-season, while her home run tally of 13 is tied for second in program history for home runs in a single campaign. Heading into her final season with the Crimson next year, Sun is the all-time program leader in career batting average (.407), slugging percentage (.713) and on-base percentage (.463).

An NFCA Northeast All-Region pick for a second-straight season, Payne enjoyed a career-year in her final season in Cambridge, as the Liberty Township, Ohio native posted career-highs in hits (46), triples (3), home runs (10), RBIs (44), slugging percentage (.618), walks (24) and on-base percentage (.428) this season. Only one of two Crimson to start in all 45 games during the 2026 campaign, Payne is only the sixth student-athlete in school history to hit double-digit home runs in a single season. During the final regular season series at Columbia, Payne became only the eighth student-athlete in school history to log 100 career RBIs.

Hunter, a two-time All-Ivy League selection, earns NFCA Northeast All-Region honors for the first time after adding another dimension to her contributions on the diamond this season. A native of Camarillo, California, Hunter was a consistent presence in the circle again this season. Hunter led Harvard with a 3.15 earned run average across a team-high 111.0 innings in the circle, striking out a career-best 89 batters this year. In the Ivy League, Hunter ranked in the top five in both ERA and strikeouts, as Hunter owns a 2.58 career ERA across 293.0 innings.
