ALBANY, N.Y. – Members of the Harvard
men's and women's cross country teams competed at the
42nd Annual UAlbany Invitational Saturday morning.
On the men's side, Harvard finished 10th overall with all
five scorers placing in the top 80 of the 8,000 meter men's
championship race. Freshman Joe Brancale paced the group, clocking
in at 25:40.1, besting his last performance by 37 seconds.
Sophomore Steve Couch was second for the Crimson and 48th overall.
The final three Crimson runners finished within nine seconds and
nine places of each other. Freshman Ranvir Dhillion crossed the
line in 70th place and a time of 26:16.3, bettering his previous
collegiate best by 63 seconds. Sophomore Darcy Wilson and newcomer
Weishen Mead followed in 75th and 76th place, respectively.
Wilson's time was a personal best by 11 seconds, while Mead
was making his collegiate debut.
In women's action, five top-75 finishers helped the Crimson
to a 10th-place team finish in the 5,000 meter women's
championship race. Freshman Roey Hines paced the squad with
personal best time of 18:24.4 , shaving 63 seconds of her
collegiate best. Sophomore Kirsten Jorgenson followed six seconds
and eight places later. Junior trak captain Thea Lee and sophomore
Alison Lee crossed the finish line 67th and 68th, respectively.
Junior Meghan Houser rounded out the Crimson scoring in 74th
place.
Harvard returns to action Oct. 30 at the Heptagonal Ivy League
Championships at Van Cortlandt Park.
