Series History
Saturday's game will be the 80th meeting between Harvard
and Penn in a series that dates to 1881.
Harvard holds a 45-32-2 series lead and has won four of the last
five meetings against the Quakers.
Last Year's Meeting
Ryan Barnes picked off three passes - including one in the
end zone with 10 seconds to play - to seal a 24-21 victory and
added three breakups to his picks. Chris Pizzotti threw two TD
passes for Harvard, which led 17-0 and took a 24-14 lead with 11:43
to go on Pizzotti's 2-yard touchdown pass to Nicolai Schwarzkopf.
Penn responded with a 13-yard touchdown run by Keiffer Garton
that cut the lead to 24-21 with 4:36 left. Penn forced the Crimson
to punt and the Quakers took over at their own 25-yard line and
drove deep into Harvard territory over the next 13 plays. But
Barnes picked off a pass from Garton for the third time, allowing
Harvard to run out the clock.
Collin Zych had 15 tackles including 10 solo efforts and three
for a loss. Kicker Patrick Long boomed kickoffs all afternoon,
averaging 66.0 yards per kick while Thomas Hull averaged nearly 42
yards per punt.
Harvard's Last Time Out
Gino Gordon ran for two touchdowns and Collier Winters
passed for another as Harvard remained unbeaten in the Ivy League
with a 34-14 over Columbia Saturday.
Gordon ran six yards for his first touchdown as the Crimson
scored 21 points in the first quarter. He added his second on a
3-yard run midway through the third.
Gordon finished with 63 yards rushing in 12 carries while
Winters was 19 for 30 for 214 yards.
Treavor Scales had a 1-yard TD run and Winters found Kyle
Juszczyk for a 12-yard scoring pass after a fumble recovery by Nick
Hasselberg.
Patrick Long added field goals of 38 and 29 yards to make it
34-0 before Columbia scored twice in the final 6:49 on a 1-yard run
by Zack Kourouma and a 10-yard pass from Bell to Andrew Kennedy.
Penn's Last Time Out
Kyle Olson threw three touchdown passes to lead
Pennsylvania to a 42-7 win over Princeton.
Olson was 20-for-32 for 238 yards. Matt Tuten added 92 receiving
yards and a touchdown for the Quakers, and Kyle Derham chipped in
with 75 receiving yards and a touchdown. Lyle Marsh had 99 rushing
yards on 12 carries.
Princeton was outscored 21-0 in the second half. Penn had 215
rushing yards, which equaled Princeton's total yards in the game.
The Tigers rushed for only 25 yards.
Harvard Coach Tim Murphy
In his 16th season as Harvard's head coach, Tim Murphy
enters Saturday's game with a 103-54 record with the Crimson and a
135-99-1 overall head coaching record, which includes five years at
Cincinnati and two years at Maine. Murphy is one of just five
coaches to win 100 games since the formation of the Ivy League in
1954. Murphy has led Harvard to five Ivy League championships
(1997, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008). He is 6-9 all-time against
Penn.
Penn Coach Al Bagnoli
Al Bagnoli is in his 18th year on the Penn sideline and
brings a 120-56 record with the Quakers into Saturday's game.
Bagnoli has led Penn to six Ivy League titles and is 11-6 against
