Jeremy Lin and Dee Giger earned top Ivy League honors in its
first weekly release.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard players factored
heavily in the first Ivy League Weekly Report as senior Jeremy Lin
was named the co-Player of the Week and freshman Dee Giger was
named the Rookie of the Week in an announcement by the league
office late Monday afternoon.
Lin shared the top player honors with Cornell's Ryan Wittman,
who scored 23 points in the Big Red's win at Alabama on Saturday.
Lin guided Harvard to a 2-0 start to the season in dramatic
fashion. On Sunday, Lin connected with a runner from inside the
half court line as time expired while getting fouled to give
Harvard an 87-85 triple overtime victory over William & Mary.
He finished the game with 19 points (9-11 FT), nine assists and
five rebounds. Highlight clips of Lin's heroics have circulated
among major news stations and was featured on ESPN's Top Videos
segments.
On Friday night at Patriot League favorite Holy Cross, Lin
scored 21 of his game-high 24 points in the second half to lead the
Crimson in an 87-77 victory while adding eight more assists.
For the week he averaged 21.5 points, 8.0 assists and 4.0
rebounds per game while going 19-for-24 from the free throw
line.
Giger, an Arden, N.C native, scored 13 points in his collegiate
debut on 4-for-6 shooting from deep in the Holy Cross win. In the
game, he connected on three big 3-pointers in the second half
including two on consecutive touches from opposite corners of the
floor during a 10-0 Harvard run. Giger finished the week averaging
9.5 points and shooting 50 percent from long range.

... In the opener at HC, Harvard used 11 players in the first six
minutes of the game and 10 players scored first half points. Kyle
Casey, Andrew Van Nest and Christian Webster made their collegiate
debuts at the 17:03 mark of the first half and Brandyn Curry
checked in just moments later at the 16:37 mark. Dee Giger and Pat
Magnarelli joined the court at the 13:46 mark for a rotation with
four freshmen (Curry, Casey, Giger, Webster) and a player who had
not played in 1.5 years due to injury (Magnarelli) ...
Harvard attempted 30 free throw shots in both games this week,
going to the line a combined 65 times and converting 49
(.754).
