The Particulars:
The Harvard men's swimming and diving team travels to New
York to compete against Columbia in an Ivy League dual meet at Uris
Pool Nov. 20 at 5 p.m.
About Harvard:
The Crimson enters the weekend with a 2-0 record in the Ancient
Eight and a 2-1 overall mark. Harvard fell to Texas A&M Nov. 13
in the season opener, 131.5-102.5, at Blodgett Pool. The following
day, the Crimson defeated Cornell and Dartmouth in a tri-meet in
Ithaca, N.Y. Harvard downed the Big Red 177-123 and topped the Big
Green 237-63 to begin conference action.
Harvard won nine events on the day in the Ivy League competition.
Senior diver Zac Ranta won the three-meter board and placed second
on the one-meter board. The Crimson swept the top four spots in the
1,000 freestyle and the top three in the 200 backstroke. Senior
Mason Brunnick touched the wall first in the free and sophomore
Robert Newell claimed first place in the back. Junior Douwe
Yntema won the 200 freestyle race and senior co-captain Alex Meyer
posted a win in the 500 free event. The Crimson also took first
place in the 200 medley and the 400 freestyle relays.
About Columbia:
Columbia comes into the meet with a 1-1 record against Ivy League
opponents. The Lions fell to Penn Nov. 13, 161-139, but rebounded
to edge Yale the next day, 151-149. The win over the Bulldogs
marked the first time Columbia has defeated Yale since 2005.
Last Season:
Harvard handed Columbia a 200-100 loss Nov. 21, 2008 in Cambridge,
Mass. With last season's win, the Crimson improved to 3-0 in
the Ivy League and overall to start the season. Harvard looks to
move to 3-0 in the Ancient Eight this year as well.
Looking Ahead:
The Crimson will compete at the Georgia Invitational Dec. 4-6 in
Athens, Ga. Other teams competing along with the Crimson are
Denver, Florida and the Bulldogs. Harvard's next fual meet is
schedule for Saturday, Jan. 9, when the team visits Penn.
