The Particulars
Harvard travels to West Point, N.Y. to take on the Army Black
Knights on Monday at 7 p.m. Harvard enters play at 3-0 while the
Black Knights are 2-1 and coming off a big win against Princeton.

Series History
The series between the Crimson and the Black knights dates
back to the 1904-05 season when Harvard won, 21-11. The two teams
have met on the court a total of 23 times, with Army leading the
series, 15-8.
Last Year's Meeting
Harvard defeated Army in their last meeting 66-54 at
Lavietes Pavilion, Nov. 29, 2008. In the first half, neither team
got momentum going as almost every play resulted in a tie or lead
change. Neither team was able to gain more
than a four point lead before the break. With just a one point
lead going into the locker room at halftime, the Crimson went on a
23-8 run during the second half to put the game out of reach.
The Black Knights were able to cut the deficit to eight points,
but another scoring spurt for the Crimson put the lead out of reach
as Harvard led by as many as 16 in the second half.
Jeremy Lin led all scorers with 24 after going six for 12 from
the field, including three from behind the arc. He also added nine
from the charity stripe. Keith Wright pulled down 13 rebounds to
help the Crimson outrebound the Black Knights, 36-29.
Harvard's Last Time Out
Harvard beat non-conference opponent Bryant Nov. 20 at
Lavietes Pavilion. The Crimson started the game shooting just six
for 22 from the floor, but then caught fire and connected on 22 of
their next 34 shots. Always the playmaker, Jeremy Lin began the run
for Harvard as he made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the first
half.
The second half started with an 18-4 by Harvard. Pat Magnarelli
hit two free throws during that run to give the Crimson a 52-32
lead with just over 13 minutes remaining in the game.
In all, 14 players saw action in the game, 13 scored, 10 played
at least 10 minutes and no player played more than 27 minutes. Lin
and Christian Webster each scored 12 points and went 5-7 from the
field. Magnarelli added 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting.
Army's Last Time Out
Senior Cleveland Richard scored a game-high 18 points and
had eight steals as the Black Knights defeated Princeton, 56-52, at
Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, N.J., on Saturday.
Army opened the game with a 10-0 run and had a double-digit lead
for most of the game and forced the Tigers to commit 16 turnovers.
The Black Knights had a 13 point lead going into halftime, and
brought the lead to 20 with a 14-7 burst in the opening six minutes
of the second half.
Princeton cut the lead to three before Julian Simmons converted
on a pair of free throws to keep the Black Knights in control of
the game. Senior guard Josh Miller grabbed a game-high eight
rebounds and had five points for the Black Knights.
Harvard Coach Tommy
Amaker
Tommy Amaker (Duke '87) begins his third season as head
coach of the Harvard men's basketball team. He registered his 200th
career coaching victory Nov. 13 in the 2009-10 season opener at
Holy Cross.
He brings a 202-174 career head coaching record
into the game, including a 109-83 record at Michigan at a 68-55
record at Seton Hall.
Amaker came to Harvard after a six year stint as
Michigan's head coach. Inheriting a program that was reeling from
institutional and NCAA sanctions, he led the Wolverines to the
postseason three times, winning the 2004 NIT title, reaching the
championship game of the 2006 NIT, and advancing to the second
round of the 2007 tournament. The 2006-07 season was Michigan's
second straight 20-win campaign and its third in four years. The
Wolverines were ranked as high as No. 20 in the nation during the
2005-06 season.
