CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— The Harvard field hockey team suffered a 5-4 overtime loss to New Hampshire in  the final home game of the 2009 season Tuesday night. Sophomore Carly Dickson scored twice for the Crimson, while freshman Nina Kucharczyk and sophomore Allie Kimmel also got on the board.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first half. Meg Shea scored her 22nd goal of the season just 1:33 into the game. Kate Collins Smyth notched then struck at 5:02 for New Hampshire. Freshman Nina Kucharczyk got the Crimson on the board at 15:04. Kucharczyk scored her first collegiate goal as she stuffed in a rebound right in front of the cage after a shot from Dickson was saved by Wildcat goalie Katherine Nagengast. Dickson tied the game at 2-2 with a shot through a crowd of players 12 minutes later. Shea gave New Hampshire the lead going into halftime by redirecting a pass into the goal with 1:22 remaining.

In the second stanza, Cally Cooke extended the Wildcat lead to two goals by scoring off a penalty corner six minutes into play. Sophomore Allie Kimmel cut the deficit in half for the Crimson with her fifth goal of the year just five minutes later. Dickson tied the game at 4-4 when she scored on a penalty corner with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Neither team was able to score in the remaining minutes, causing the game to go into overtime.

Whitney Frates tipped in the game-winner just six minutes into overtime. UNH held a 24-15 advantage in shots, and Dickson registered 10 shots, seven on goal, for the Crimson. Freshman Cynthia Tassopoulos had 11 saves on the night.

Harvard wraps up the 2009-10 season with an Ivy League game at Columbia Friday. The match begins at 3 p.m.
