Georgetown Hoyas.

Harvard returns from a 13-day hiatus from competition on
Wed., Dec. 23 for a noon matinee against the Georgetown Hoyas at
the Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C.

Series History
The teams have met just twice before, the last time coming
in the 1976-77 season. Georgetown won that game, 60-40, as well as
a 58-53 contest played back in the 1949-50 campaign.
Harvard's Last Time
Out
Jeremy Lin had 16 second-half points and made 10-of-12
free throws in the game to guide the Harvard men's basketball team
to its second straight win over crosstown rival Boston
College. Before 4,136 fans at Conte Forum, Lin scored a
game-high 25 points, while Keith Wright added a career-high 21
points on 9-of-14 shooting.
Harvard enjoyed a 45-34 advantage in scoring during
the second half, as the Crimson shot 57.1 percent from the floor in
the final 20 minutes of action.
Despite an eight-minute scoring drought, Harvard
trailed by just four at the break and the Crimson methodically got
back into the game by converting 9-of-12 shots to start the second
stanza. A steal and a gliding layup from Lin followed by two free
throws made it a 43-42 game with under 13 minutes to play. Another
driving layup kept it a one-point affair, 45-44, as he started
6-of-6 from the floor. Those freebies kicked off an 11-0 run that
saw Harvard grab a 53-45 lead that it would never relinquish.
Georgetown's Last Time
Out
Old Dominion spoiled Georgetown's annual game at McDonough
Arena, capitalizing on 18 turnovers in a 61-57 win Saturday night
and handing the then-11th-ranked Hoyas their first loss of the
season.
Ben Finney had 13 points, five rebounds and three
steals for the Monarchs.
The game was played despite a record December
snowstorm that brought the nation's capital to a virtual
standstill, and the Hoyas looked as cold as the outside temperature
when they tallied nine turnovers and only nine points in the first
13 minutes.
The preseason favorite to win the Colonial Athletic
Association never trailed and led by 18 with 14:20 to play.
The Hoyas rallied to cut the lead to 59-57 on Greg
Monroe's two free throws with 1:16 remaining, but Frank Hassell's
tip-in with 41 seconds left ended a 3 1/2 minute drought for the
Monarchs and wound up being the final points scored in the game.
Monroe finished with 15 points and seven rebounds
for the Hoyas, who shot only 14 for 22 from the free throw line.
Julian Vaughn had 13 points but also committed five turnovers, and
Freeman had 13 points and three turnovers.
Harvard Coach Tommy
Amaker
Tommy Amaker (Duke '87) begins his third season as head
coach of the Harvard men's basketball team. He registered his 200th
career coaching victory Nov. 13 in the 2009-10 season opener at
Holy Cross.
He brings a 206-176 career head coaching record
into the game, including a 109-83 record at Michigan at a 68-55
record at Seton Hall.
Amaker came to Harvard after a six year stint as
Michigan's head coach. Inheriting a program that was reeling from
institutional and NCAA sanctions, he led the Wolverines to the
postseason three times, winning the 2004 NIT title, reaching the
championship game of the 2006 NIT, and advancing to the second
round of the 2007 tournament. The 2006-07 season was Michigan's
second straight 20-win campaign and its third in four years. The
Wolverines were ranked as high as No. 20 in the nation during the
2005-06 season.
RPI Watch
Harvard's RPI (collegerpi.com) is currently 42nd
nationally. Georgetown enters play at No. 12.
William & Mary, which Harvard defeated, was
ranked as high as 13th and is currently 20th. The win is the only
Ivy League victory against a Top 25 RPI team this season.
Harvard has three of the Ivy's five wins against
Top 100 teams (William & Mary, Rice, Boston College).

Big Time Contributors
So far this season, non-starters have accounted for 39.8
percent of Harvard's total points (242 of 608) as well as played 48
percent of the total minutes.
Harvard's bench players have outscored opposing
team subs in all nine games this year with three 30-plus-point
outings.
Unofficial Beanpot
Harvard is the winner of this year's unofficial basketball
Beanpot after defeating Boston College, Boston University and Holy
Cross this season.
Harvard has defeated BC in each of the last two
seasons and is 5-0 in its last five games against in-state foes.
Up The Leaderboard
Jeremy Lin moved past Matt Stehle '06 (1,151) into 15th
place on the all-time scoring list with 1,174 points.
Hot Shot
By starting 6-of-6 from the floor against BC on Dec. 9,
Jeremy Lin had made 17 of his last 20 shot attempts dating back to
the UConn game
On The Big Board
Harvard outrebounded UConn, 23-19, in the first half on
Dec. 6. The Crimson has yet to be outrebounded in the first half of
a game this season.
Harvard outrebounded Boston College, 31-30, in its
win on Dec. 9 just days after BC had outrebounded previously
unbeaten Miami, 43-21.
In The Paint
Harvard has scored more points in the paint than its
opponents in every game this season
25 Years
Harvard's wins over Rice on Dec. 2 and BC on Dec. 9 sealed
the Crimson's best start to a season (6-1 and 7-2, respectively) in
25 years since going 8-0 to start the 1984-85 season.
Harvard's 8-0 start in 1984-85 included two
victories over D. II programs and one victory over a D. III
program. The next best start came in 1957-58 when the team started
8-1 with five wins against lower division opponents.
