CAMBRIDGE,
Mass.--Penn scored four times in the
second half to come from behind to defeat the Harvard field hockey
team, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field in the Crimson's Ivy
League home opener.
Sophomore Allie Kimmel scored for the Crimson (3-3, 0-2 Ivy
League), which held a one-goal edge at halftime and outshot the
Quakers, 14-11, for the game. Harvard also held a 4-3 advantage in
penalty corners, but Penn got two goals from Sarah Hasson and seven
saves from Kieran Sweeney.
The Crimson owned the game's opening minutes, but Sweeney made
two saves on Harvard sophomore Carly Dickson. The Quakers had their
best chances of the half on three straight corners about 10 minutes
before the break. Tassopoulos made a pair of saves, allowing
Harvard to take the lead on Kimmel's goal at 27:08. She banged the
ball in from the left post after freshman Emma Keller sent it her
way from the top of the circle.
Penn snatched the lead with two Sarah Hasson goals in less than
a minute on the first two shots of the second half. Hasson first
finished off a left-to-right pass across the front of the goal by
Annie Matthews and then buried a shot inside the right post.
Harvard battled back right away, but Sweeney made five second-half
saves and Penn got another quick pair of goals from Kelsey Tahan
and Laurel McGarvie to seal the win.
