Cynthia Tassopoulos made eight saves Saturday against Cornell (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --  Cynthia Tassopoulos recorded eight saves for the Harvard field hockey team, but the Crimson dropped a home Ivy League contest to Cornell, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field.

Catie De Stio gave Cornell (9-3, 3-1 Ivy League) a 1-0 lead, as she carried the ball down from midfield on the right side. De Stio fought off a Crimson defender and shot the ball by Tassopoulos at 15:49.  The Big Red earned all three penalty corners in the first half, and held a 5-1 advantage in shots through the first 35 minutes.

In the second, Harvard (3-10, 1-3) earned six penalty corners, including five in the final five minutes alone.  With the clock winding down, the Crimson was able to fire four shots, but three were blocked by defenders and the other, a chance by Carly Dickson, was kicked aside by Cornell's Alex Botte.  With 1:12 remaining in regulation, De Stio scored her second goal of the game, as she fired a long shot from 10 yards out that hit the back of the cage.

Botte finished with three saves for the Big Red, who outshot the Crimson, 15-8, and held a 7-6 advantage in penalty corners for the game.
