PRINCETON, N.J.—Fifth-ranked Princeton
scored twice in the final five minutes of the first half and once
in the second to pull away to a 4-0 win against the Harvard field
hockey team Saturday afternoon at Class of '52 Stadium.
Kathleen Sharkey scored three goals, all in the first half, for
the Tigers (11-3, 5-0 Ivy League). Harvard's Cynthia
Tassopoulos made eight of her 11 saves in the first half to keep
the Crimson in contention until Sharkey's scores late in the
period. Tassopoulos became the first Ivy goalie to limit Princeton
to fewer than six goals.
Four saves by Tassopoulos and a defensive save by Pilar Curtis
kept the game scoreless early, but Sharkey gave Princeton the lead
15 minutes into the contest, with Rachel Neufeld assisting. The
Tigers built the lead to 3-0 when Sharkey scored twice in less than
three minutes before the break.
Michelle Cesan had the final tally about 12 minutes into the
second half. Princeton owned shots advantages of 21-6 for the game
and 6-4 in the second half. Christy Haughey, Mariah Pewarski and
Chloe Keating each registered a pair of shots for Harvard (3-11,
1-4). Each team logged three second-half penalty corners, and
Jennifer King made two second-half saves for the Tigers.
The defensive save was the second of the season for Curtis, and
the 11 saves matched a season high for Tassopoulos.
