Hamilton and the Radcliffe lightweight varsity earned a
bronze medal at Eastern Sprints.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Seven members of the
Harvard and Radcliffe crews have been invited to U.S. Under 23
national selection and development camps this summer, and Harvard
lightweight freshman coach Linda Muri is serving as a coach with
the U.S. Women's U23 National Team.
The student-athletes are seeking spots on the U.S. squads that
will compete at the 2010 World Rowing Under 23 Championships July
22-25 in Brest, Belarus.
Muri is coaching and rising senior Olivia Coffey of the
Radcliffe heavyweight crew is currently competing at the
women's U23 camp. The camp began June 1 at the Olympic
Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., with athletes remaining
after initial cuts moving to Mercer Lake in New Jersey.
Also training with USRowing from the Radcliffe rowing teams are
heavyweight sophomore Michelle Pearson and lightweight sophomore
Elizabeth Hamilton. Both are taking part in the U.S. U23
Development Camp in Cambridge.
Coffey has rowed in the Black and White varsity eight in each of
her three seasons, earning All-New England selection in 2009.
Pearson and Hamilton made the varsity eights for their respective
Radcliffe teams as freshmen in 2010.
On the men's side, Harvard lightweights Will Newell and
Austin Meyer have been invited to the U.S. Under 23 selection camp
for the men's lightweight four without coxswain, while lightweight
Eric Schultze has been invited to the sculling camp and heavyweight
Nick Jordan is headed to the U23 Men's National Team camp.
The lightweight four camp is being held at the Oklahoma City
National High Performance Center and will select the group that
will compete in Belarus. The lightweight scullers will be
determined at the U.S. U23 World Championship Trials June 22-25 on
Mercer Lake. Meyer and Newell contributed to the Harvard
lightweight varsity eight's 10-0 dual record and Eastern and
national medals. Schultze helped the Crimson freshmen take silver
at Eastern Sprints.
Jordan will join the men's heavyweight camp after
competing for Harvard at the Henley Royal Regatta July 1-4 in
Henley-on-Thames, England. He has already helped Harvard claim
Eastern Sprints and Harvard-Yale championships this season.
