CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Harvard field
hockey team's 2010 schedule was announced Friday by head
coach Sue Caples. This year's matchups include games against
three teams who competed in the 2009 NCAA Championship and two-game
road trips to Vermont and California.
The Catamount Classic will be held Sept. 11-12 in Burlington,
Vt. The Crimson will battle Maine in its opening game and
face host Vermont a day later.
Harvard will make its first trip to the West Coast for games
Oct. 8 at Stanford and Oct. 10 at California. The Cardinal is
coming off a 16-4 season in which it won the NorPac championship
and reached the NCAA tournament.
The Crimson will start the 2010 season at home hosting Holy
Cross (Sept. 4) and Bryant (Sept. 6). Harvard has won three of the
past four meetings with the Crusaders and took the first matchup
against the Bulldogs last season. These are two of 10
non-league games this season.
Harvard will play its first Ivy League game of the season
against rival Yale on Sept. 18. The past six competitions
against the Bulldogs have been decided by one goal. The remaining
Ivy League home games are Cornell (Oct.16) and the season closer
against Columbia (Nov. 6).
Harvard will play the rest of the Ivy League on the road
starting with Penn (Sept. 25). The Crimson will later visit Brown
(Oct. 2), and defending Ivy League champion Princeton (Oct. 23) and
Dartmouth (Oct. 30).
Harvard will host Boston rivals Northeastern (Sept. 22) and
Boston College (Oct. 27). The Crimson will also host Bucknell
(Oct. 3) to complete its non-league home slate. The Eagles are
coming off an NCAA at-large berth, while the Bison tied for the
Patriot League's regular-season title.
The Crimson's remaining nonleague contest is Sept. 15 at
New Hampshire.
Harvard will be aiming for its fourth Ivy League title and fifth
appearance in the 2010 NCAA Championship. First and
second-round play in the tournament is set for Nov. 13 and 14 and
the semifinals and final will be Nov. 19 and 22.
