Last Time Out
Northeastern scored three first-half goals and went on to defeat
the Crimson, 4-0, Wednesday evening at Jordan Field. Sophomore Cynthia
Tassopoulos matched a season high with 11 saves, and junior Georgia
McGillivray led Harvard with two shots.
Crimson Capsule
Senior Chloe
Keating continues to pace the Crimson (2-5, 0-1 Ivy League) in
points (11), goals (four), assists (three) and game-winning goals
(two). Her points total remains tied for the Ivy League's
third-highest, while her goals mark is tied for sixth in the
league.
A Different Surface
While most collegiate field hockey is played on flat,
smooth-rolling AstroTurf fields, Penn's Franklin Field features
FieldTurf, which feels more like natural grass. In preparation for
Saturday's game, the Crimson practiced Thursday on the FieldTurf of
the Cumnock fields beyond the fence of Jordan Field. Harvard will
get in a practice Friday at Franklin Field after traveling to
Philadelphia.
History Lesson
Harvard held a 1-0 halftime lead and a 14-11 edge in shots in the
game, but Penn scored four second-half goals to rally to a 4-1
defeat of the Crimson last season at Jordan Field. Sarah Hasson
scored twice for the Quakers, while Kieran Sweeney made seven
saves. Cynthia Tassopoulos made two stops for the Crimson. Penn has
won three of the last four meetings between the teams, following a
streak of 10 straight series wins for Harvard.
Scouting the Quakers
Penn (1-3, 0-1) enters Saturday's matchup on a three-game skid,
having suffered consecutive 4-0 road losses to Cornell and
Villanova. The Quakers' lone win came Sept. 11 at William &
Mary, 1-0. Kieran Sweeney registered a seven-save shutout in that
game has averaged an Ivy League-high nine saves per game thus
far.
Around the League
Cornell and Columbia both seek their second Ivy League win as they
kick off the Ivy weekend schedule Friday afternoon in New York
City. Princeton and Yale also look to move to 2-0 in the Ancient
Eight Saturday in New Haven, Conn., while Brown and Dartmouth seek
their first Ivy win in Hanover, N.H. Sunny Stirwalt and Kyle
deSandes-Moyer share the team lead with two goals and four points
apiece.
