Box Score McGillivray gave Harvard a first-half lead.
PHILADELPHIA—Carly Dickson
registered a goal and an assist, and Cynthia
Tassopoulos registered her first shutout of the season to lead
the Harvard field hockey team to a 2-0 win at Penn in the Crimson's
first Ivy League road game Saturday afternoon at Franklin
Field.
Georgia
McGillivray also tallied for Harvard (3-5, 1-1 Ivy League),
which held an 8-7 edge in shots. Tassopoulos made three saves for
the second shutout of her career, while Kieran Sweeney made two
stops for Penn (1-5, 0-2). The Crimson shut out the Quakers despite
Penn's 5-3 advantage in penalty corners and the fact that the game
was played on FieldTurf, a surface relatively unfamiliar to the
Harvard team.
"It was a great road win," said head coach Sue
Caples. "The team really played well. They executed the
gameplan and did a very good job tactically. We changed our
structure around to be successful on the surface of Franklin Field,
and the team did an outstanding job adjusting and staying
disciplined."
The junior duo from Victoria, B.C., scored on each side of
halftime. McGillivray struck first, less than seven minutes before
the break. She took a pass from Dickson following a penalty coner
and scored from middle of the circle for her second goal of the
season. Harvard outshot Penn, 5-3, in the opening half and did not
allow a shot on goal by the Quakers.
Both teams put three shots on the cage in the second half, and
Dickson broke through for her second goal of the season in the
seventh minute of the second half. She scored from the left side
with senior Chloe
Keating assisting. The score raised Dickson's season point
total to six and Keating's to 12.
