Senior co-captain Kevin
DiSilvestro scored two goals against MIT (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Collegiate Water Polo
Association (CWPA) Northern Division play continued Friday as
Harvard dropped an 8-4 decision to Cambridge rival MIT in the
Blodgett Pool opener.
The Engineers jumped to a 2-0 advantage through seven minutes
before Luka
Babic got Harvard on the board with 42 seconds remaining in the
first quarter. The Crimson nearly tied the score just before the
first period buzzer sounded but MIT goalie Columbus Leonard barely
deflected a Harvard shot to register the save.
Kevin DiSilvestro tallied a Crimson goal in the second but MIT
scored twice to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.
MIT added to its lead in the third quarter with four consecutive
Andrew Dorne goals in 2:07 of elapsed game time. Harvard shutout
MIT for the remaining 11 minutes but the flurry of goals by Dorne
was enough for the Engineers to secure the victory.
DiSilvestro added his second goal of the contest to make the
score 8-3 entering the final frame and Max Murphy
closed the scoring with a fourth quarter goal.
Harvard moved to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in the Northern
Division.
Action at Blodgett Pool continues tomorrow with the Crimson
facing Ivy League rival Brown. The noon game has been announced as
the Harvard Student Rewards and breast cancer awareness game. For
the occasion, the two teams will be wearing special breast cancer
suits and the first 50 Harvard students in attendance will get a
free Crimson t-shirt.
