CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Senior Ryan Carroll of
the Harvard men's hockey team has been named ECAC Hockey MLX
Skates Goaltender of the Week after winning three games to close
out his final regular season with the Crimson.
Carroll stopped 95 of the 100 shots that came his way in
Harvard's wins at Brown and at home against Clarkson and St.
Lawrence. The Crimson needed every save, as each game was decided
by one goal or one plus an empty-net tally.
The Hackensack, N.J., native made 40 saves, including 19 in the
third period, in a 2-1 win Feb. 22 at Brown. On the weekend, he
logged 23 saves in a 3-1 victory against Clarkson and 32 in a 4-3
win against St. Lawrence. Two of the Saints' goals came on power
plays. Carroll made 41 of his 95 saves in the third period of last
week's games.
This is the second straight week ECAC Hockey has honored a
Harvard player. Sophomore defenseman Danny Biega was named MLX
Skates Player of the Week on Feb. 22. It is the second ECAC goalie
honor in Carroll's career. He was previously named Goaltender
of the Week on Feb. 16, 2009, after making 71 saves in a weekend
sweep of Colgate and Cornell.
Carroll has won each of his last five starts to help the Crimson
close the regular season on a 5-1-1 run. Harvard begins ECAC Hockey
tournament play by visiting Clarkson for a best-of-three series in
Potsdam, N.Y., beginning Friday at 7 p.m.
