MALIBU, Calif. - The Harvard
men's volleyball team was defeated Tuesday evening by No. 13
Pepperdine, 3-0. The loss drops the Crimson to 7-7 overall this
season.
Harvard's second match of its California spring break trip
came down to the team's attack percentages. The Waves
averaged a 46 percent attack percentage, while Harvard only managed
10.3 percent.
Pepperdine opened the match attacking at a 52.4 percent clip,
leading to 13 kills. The Crimson notched nine kills of its own, but
dropped the set 25-14. In the second set, the Waves attacking
dropped to 29.3 percent, yet the Crimson could not capitalize as
its own attack percentage dropped to 2.6 percent. Pepperdine took
the set 25-13 behind 17 kills. The Waves tallied 18 kills, while
attacking at a 68 percent rate, and took the third and deciding
set, 25-15.
Pepperdine's Cory Riecks led all players with 13 kills.
Freshman Kyle Rehkemper led the Crimson with 10 kills. Harvard will
wrap up its west coast swing with a matchup against No. 1 Southern
California Wednesday evening.
