CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman Alexandra Kiefer has been selected as the COOP Athlete of the Week for March 28, 2011, after capturing the NCAA Fencing Championship in the women's foil event.

Kiefer tallied 18 wins over the two-day round-robin portion of the event. She notched 103 recorded touches and a +42 scoring index to enter the medal round as the No. 2 seed. In her semifinal match, Kiefer earned a tough 15-12 victory over Evgeniya Kipicheva of St. John's to advance to the Championship bout.

In the final, Kiefer jumped out to a commanding 10-4 lead on Princeton's Eve Levin and never looked backed. Kiefer would score the clinching touch with 14 seconds remaining on the clock and win the national championship, 15-7. This is the third individual fencing title for Harvard since the 2005 season.
