PRINCETON, N.J. – The Harvard men's
water polo team is 1-1 after Saturday's action at the
Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J. The Crimson opened the
day with an overtime win over George Washington, 14-13, before
falling to No. 17 Princeton, 13-2, in the nightcap to move its
record to 2-2 on the young season.
Harvard broke out to a 11-6 lead through three periods against
George Washington, but was outscored 6-1 in the final frame to
force overtime. The Crimson blanked the Colonials, 1-0, in the
first overtime and tied, 1-1, in the second overtime to top GW,
13-12. Max Eliot netted the game winner with 1:36 left in the
second overtime.
Eliot led Harvard's offense with five goals, while Kevin
DiSilvestro and Mike Katzer each added two.
The Crimson offense, which was averaging over 11 goals per game
entering the contest, was stymied by No. 17 Princeton. The Tigers
handled Harvard, 13-2.
Princeton, who opened its season Friday night, won its third
game in as many tries in its home pool.
The Crimson will conclude the Princeton Invitational with two
matches tomorrow. Harvard will face Johns Hopkins at 9:10 a.m. and
see Fordham at 12:40 p.m.
