1983 (Harvard Athletic Communications).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A day removed from a fourth-place
finish at the NCAA Northeast Regionals, the Harvard women's
cross country team was selected as an at-large team to represent
the Northeast region at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Boston College and fellow Ivy squad Cornell also earned two of the
13 at-large bids to the championships.
All scoring members of the women's team finished within 29
positions and 38 seconds of each other at the regional race, led by
junior captain Emily Reese who finished 19th overall. Viviana
Hanley (20th), Morgan Kelly (27th), Sammy Silva (36th) and Alaina
Alvarez (48th) rounded out the quintet that allowed Harvard to
qualify for the NCAA Championships for the first time since
1983.
The women's squad will be joined by two individuals from
the men's squad as top-five finishes by Maksim Korolev
(second) and James Leakos (fifth) saw them earn spots in the field.
The NCAA Championships will be run Nov. 17 in Louisville, Ky., and
will be hosted by Louisville.
